I've seen this Citation for a while now at FRG, but usually just poking out between hangars and parked aircraft down on the south side. Finally saw it Thursday out near the fence with nothing in front.
http://moose135.smugmug.com/photos/237684253-L.jpg
It's painted up in a military-themed paint scheme, which threw me the first time I saw it, thinking it was some military visitor, until I saw the N-number on the engine cowling. The markings on the tail carry out the military theme - 97-0231 - according to the FAA registry, it was built in 1997, and has a Cessna serial number of 0231.

Well that explains the high frequency of sightings for what I thought was a USMC VIP aircraft climbing out of Republic and why I never saw it on the visitor ramp. Cheers Moose.

Moose I take it that it's legal to paint your aircraft to look like it's in the military? I mean, color scheme sure, but down to the military reggie he added...that's taking it a step to far.

If you ever see the guy who owns that and hint his initials are...M.G. Tell him you know of a certain Fedex skipper who he still owes from a rigged game of poker-You just might get a ride!
Was he ever in the military? Or just a fan.

According to FlightAware, they came in from Willow Run (KYIP) and departed about two hours later for Memphis. Right now, they are en-route from Memphis to El Paso. I noticed there are no side windows on the jet, and I see an "Active Aero Group" logo on the tail.
I found this on-line about them - they are USA Jet's parent company...learn something new every day!
Active Aero Group, through its Active Aero Charter unit, can help your airfreight and a carrier's cargo capacity find each other. The company's online CharterNet service lets shippers list freight for transport so carriers can bid for the business. Active Aero Charter works with some 170 carriers that collectively maintain some 2,000 aircraft of more than 100 types. About a third of the flights brokered through CharterNet are undertaken by Active Aero Group subsidiary USA Jet Airlines, which transports air cargo with a fleet of more than two dozen planes, mainly Dassault Falcon 20s and McDonnell Douglass DC-9s.

With the Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes playing a home-and-home series (this afternoon on LI, and Tuesday night in Carolina) I knew there would be some hockey charters around. They arrived Sunday afternoon, and with today's game time, they will be departing for RDU after dark, but I did catch this one, parked next to Hangar 5.

The Isles' Miami Air 738 was in it's normal spot next to Atlantic, but right up close to the fence as usual. Also caught News 12 departing - they are usually parked in a spot that's tough to shoot, and depart to the south, so it's not always easy to grab them.

Cablevision also has this copter http://www.helispot.com/photo/0003340 and one or

And it is a very busy IFR operation also. The helos make regular stops at both the Bethpage and
Woodbury pads and when one of the ships is down for maintenance they bring in a back-up 76.
At one point Dolan wanted to build a pad at the Rangers/Knicks training facilty up in Greenburgh, NY
(Westchester County) but I believe he was turned down by the locals. Now has to drive over from
HPN.

After my weekly job search/therapy meeting, I was hanging out at FRG waiting to meet some friends for lunch when I heard rotors thumping past. Looked up to see this guy taxi up to the terminal. They sat there about for 10 minutes, with the engines running, then taxied out and departed again. Maybe the pilot needed to hit the head

One of the airport Ops/ARFF guys was marshaling them out, and when he saw me by the fence taking pictures, he started waving and pointing. I waved back then returned to the car. As they taxied by, I got out and took some more shots, and he started heading my way again. I just waved and left.
BTW - today is "National Check Your ISO Day". Was shooting last night, and forgot to reset my ISO from 400, so I couldn't figure out at first why I was getting shutter speeds of 1/2000 at f/7.1.

You know that could be closer to the truth than you think. Over the years I've seen lots of
military helos stop at FRG, especially over by the Jet Center, for about 30 minutes to an hour
then head out again. Depending how far their flight is they could be grabbing a bite to eat,
stretch their legs, bathroom and up and out.

I can't count how many times that fence on New Highway gets destroyed....Just this year alone I've seen it wrecked 5 or more times. I'm waiting for either the State or the Town to put in a guard rail. The person was prob speeding hit one of the craters in that road and lost control. Even the most bombed out road in Iraq isn't as bad as New Highway.

>and we actually had an interesting day that day when the blackhawk here, we had the US Navy Kingair Be-300, and a sikorski s-92 which was absolutely crazy looking!<
Another reason I love FRG. You never know who might be visiting.
The issue with new hwy is because the rain washes the side of the road out leaving the very edge of the road much higher. If you are driving and happen to look away at an aircraft and you slip off the side of the road, you try to put the car back on the road.....THAT IS WHEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE! The tire has a hard time on the lip and you pull the weel left until you clear it and are now sailing into the other lane.... This one here involded another car
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/photos/271103437_TdmGq-L.jpg
The ONLY way to fix new Hwy is to pave about 3 feet out from the roads edge on each side. Only then will the fence repairmen have the weekend off! :borat:
For now, if you go off the road.....KEEP GOING OFF. You can go off the road doing 100MPH and you will have no problem.... Try getting back on the road at any speed right now is just not possible.
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/photos/271104594_nkqTi-L.jpg
Here you can clearly see at least a 4inch lip on the very bottom of this picture... I have seen much deeper. This part of the road is not that bad either!!! Be careful until they fix it again...it is a yearly thing. Last year they came and filled in with fresh soil. Great fix right? :borat:

well between the 4" lips and a turn that if you dont know the turn and its ether dark or foggy out.. your going right across the other lane and into that fence too.. i cant tell you how many times leaving work ive had someone barley hit me from not knowing that turn

to the north and then out to the east and over to the shore. Parked in the front of Hangar 5 sat two of my favorite ships the Agusta 109. N200BK (a tenant of FRG) and visitor N80NY sat in the shining sun. Then
N355AG was pulled out, fueled up and out to the NE to the Bridgeport, Ct area. N5G is a regular movie/TV copter and today they must be in front of the camera as it had a NEWS15 WMNY logo on the
side. At my daughters soccer game in East Meadow just north of NUMC around 4:10 one of the NCPD
Bell 407s passed by low and fast heading out to the SW. 15 minutes they were back and on final to the pad
at NUMC with a medevac. Quick run there.

Any ideas??

I was watching them prepare while sitting in the Sheltair lot. There were 2 guys in Army fatigues, and 5 guys in black jumpsuits. Looked like some sort of team, and they were acting a bit goofy at times, almost as if they were practicing what they would do after jumping out. Alas, there were no markings on their jumpsuits, so I couldn't tell you if they were Golden Knights in training or not.
Here they are departing Runway 14

So after my youngest sons hockey game and with the sun shining brightly I decided to take a ride by FRG. As I pulled up to the Atlantic area at 12:30 an ExpressJet Embraer EMB-145XR, N14162, was offloading their many passengers while a fleet of limos, SUVs and Town Cars waited, most on the tarmac. I was wondering if this was a charter coming back from the Kentucky Derby. The ownership of the winner, Big Brown, all live on Long Island. In fact a large number of private/charter jets were in and out. At one point there were 3 lined up by Talon Air offloading. The Embraer left at 1:35PM.
The 5 T-34 Navy trainers taxied out to Runway 3-2 and by 1:40 began departing one at a time. In fact it took about 25 minutes before the last one took off. Last I heard they were being routed up to 6000 feet.
A nice Dornier 328 that had been over by Sheltair also departed. Good looking aircraft.
State Police helo N17SP, landed over by Hangar 5. This ship is based out of Stewart and earlier had been working east of FRG low level. They had a single pilot and flight medic (Mobile Life) on board.
And a silver MD500 Notar landed on a dolly by Sheltair. I see it is registered to Valkyrie Helicopters in the state of Washington. Long flight.
There was also a pretty nasty accident on Route 109 WB by New Highway. At least 3 vehicles involved including a Hummer that was on its roof.
I saw one aided laying on the ground as PD and FD raced up and Suffolk Aviation was on standby for a medevac but then given a disregard.
Hadnt had a busy "spotting" day like this in a long time. Finally.

I helped take off the nasty looking blue canopy off felix and put on the new grey one!!.. still looks bad would of prefered black.. but anything is better then blue.. but one advantage to working at sheltair is this!

Last I checked, Angels were due in at about 9:30am on Thursday. Practice for them is 2pm on friday.
Took a quick swing by the airport today, saw Klatt take off around 9am....memory cards are blank, batts full, scanner is in the truck, tripod is on standby...I'm getting excited!!

Sean Tuckers son has a NEW ORACLE FLYER...looks like an extra 300!!!!
NICE paint like dad!! I saw the photo flight takeoff and landing and got shots...but I am at work. 8)
that extra is one of two used by the tutima academy of aviation safety. one is painted in oracle colors while the other is in tutima paint. they're based in King City, CA (KKIC) which has a kick ass taqueria only 4 blocks from the airport! http://www.tutimaacademy.com/
i'll never get used to how bloated those -30s look. still an awesome airplane though!

>Hey a little off topic but is there any reason why the skeleton of the NYHelicopter S-58T has been sitting there off the runway for YEARS?
< Actually flew on one from East 34st to JFK when it operated as the airport shuttle. It was the first leg of our honeymoon trip to Hawaii
back in 83.
Took a ride today with a friend and I were trying to setup for OVER A YEAR.... The
last time I was with Paul he was telling me that he was going to take the day off of
work to take ME up!
I shot him leaving

Then a shot of him arriving!
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/photos/299353787_KCzcA-S.jpg
Waited as the beautiful bird comes to a stop but the engine was never stopped!!!
I see a smile and the a wave....but slowly I realize, he is not waving...but asking me
to go. I start my (well trained) no when I see my good friend Charlie shaking his
head YES! He starts yelling "I got him...GOODBYE!" and I look down at my son
Jack, He really wants to go...but I am truly sorry it was a two seater as HE loves
aviation as much as I do!

Whats the story with this plane?
It would not be good as a Fire trainer as once the bird crap is washed away, the thing would
fall apart.
This has been there for years and I have lots of neat snow shots and lot of different fun
shots. I have watched it go from horrible to not worthy of a restoration! The back control
surfaces are rammed and crunched, the fuselage just forward of the horizontal stabs has a
BIG dent and crunch. It looks like the engines have not been run in about 8 years. The
glass is no longer transparent and the inside does not look good either. This plane is the
equivalent to the old Ford pickup that is half buried in the ground. It is really sad to see.
It is probably someone who can no longer fly but can not let go of the past...I can not
blame him......The places she has seen and the joyful lasting memories have in turn brought
her to this.....I am sure if the plane sucked....it would have been sold long ago!
Brings a tear to my eye :( EVERYTIME!
***In other words...I have no freakin clue of the story of this aircraft***

Whats the story with this plane?
i've always seen it sitting there from the first day i started flying at FRG. i've heard multiple stories about it, each less true than the last. some made mention of the airplane being repossesed by it's owner from a lessor, the airplane being damaged as a result of a marital dispute, the airplane being straight up abandoned and even that it's pilot just died. who knows, but i wish someone would do something about it. it rreally hurts seeing the airplane look like that.

So what were the two Aero Vodochody jets (N7511Q and N4207W) doing at FRG/Sheltair on Saturday? They were parked by the parking lot fence

They are local, based out of the AAM. N4207W has been around for a couple of years, and N7511Q was just obtained in May, a week or so before the airshow. In fact, if you notice, the paint on N4207W is shiny, while N7511Q is more of a flat finish. That's because 07W was repainted after arriving in the States, while 11Q is more or less fresh off the Czech AF flight line.
Here they are, side-by-side inside the AAM, a few days before the Memorial Day airshow.

Great shots Fred!
Realy like that shot of that P-51 low on the deck, great panning.
Do you know when the first B-17 is supposed to go up tomorrow?
I'm gonna try to make it out there to see the early flight.

<Ended up stopping by for a little bit this afternoon as the sky cleared a little, ended up hanging around the terminal parking lot rather than the museum, and caught the Boys from Brookhaven doing their thing<
I was over by the Dave & Busters parking lot watching them at the same time as they did their low and fast fly-bys for the Museum. Today at TOBAY beach
they flew past a few times.

Was off today and was over by FRG for a few minutes having just finished an errand and heading to another when I see this beat-up looking plane taxing over to the Sheltair ramp. It was the FAA Beech 300 N81. Earlier I guess it was them doing Flight Checks at JFK that I heard on my scanner. The plane is only 20 years old but lots of wear and tear on the frame including what looked like rust behind one of the props. Oh well, our govt dollars at work.
Then as I pull out of the lot N139H comes in from the east over the cemetary and heads over to the Bravo runup pad. 139H is an AgustaWestland AB139 from Honeywell out of NJ. Had seen pix of this copter but never live. Raced over to the Atlantic ramp where they had taxied in and dropped a passenger before taxing out to Bravo then out to the SW. Nice looking copter that kinda reminds me of a smaller version of the old Westland 30.
Funny, sometimes I go to FRG and spend an hour or more and see nothing. Today I'm there for about 20 minutes and get these two arrivals. Such is the life of a spotter. :D

That what N81 was??.. i thought it was an old Army or something.. i marshaled him in and was thinking how nasty that plane looked.. I mean i dont have much love for King Airs to begin with, but they could atleast wash it!..
On top of those 2 arrivals we had a Baron come in that was from the cover of Flying Magazing!!.. with all the bells and whistles that they always boast about. def an exciting day for arrivals.. well if your not working on them!

Thought you would like that one, Matt! And yes, that's a Talon jet. Sorry, I didn't pay too much attention to the companies at the event. I do remember the USAF & USN had booths, along with the Port Authority, several of the on-field companies, as well as some local colleges.

a Blackhawk about 2000 feet in and out of the clouds heading East bound.

Hi Derf !! I don't understandwhat you're saying?
Sorry Earl... The views for the threat flipped in the thread view count, kind of like when you have too many characters than a calculator can handle. The views showed .5750 views but now shows 5000+ so now I look like a moron (nothing unusaul about that I suppose).

Midwest MD-82, hiding behind Hangar 5. She came in overnight from STL, with the Blues, who are playing the Islanders tonight. I assume she will be leaving sometime later tonight, after the game.

We'll be seeing a lot more charters with hockey season going.
This afternoon around 1:15 an NYSPD Bell 430 (w/skids) N430SP came in low from the NW over the terminal parking lot into Atlantic in the same spot the MD-82 was parked and shutdown. At 2PM I saw them low NW over Woodbury Rd then about 25 minutes later low EB along the Northern State then back WB heading SW. All the
time they were below 1000 feet. I wonder if they were doing advance work for the Presidential debates at Hofstra Wed.night? State copters usually come in and
augment NC Air Bureau for special events and NC has only two copters availables with the third undergoing major maintenance.

Interesting - hadn't thought about the debate - I was over near Eisenhower Park this afternoon, and heard a helicopter circling to the west of the park. Caught a brief glimpse of it, but not enough to really figure out what it was. Thinking about it now, it did look like the size/shape/colors of this NYSP Bell 430 - I'm just about certain it didn't have skids:
