For the ALCS at the Stadium I would guess.

State Police helos, US Army Blackhawks and Lakota's have been staging, fueling at Atlantic all day.

Storm damage at FRG, one of the T hangars was lfted off the ground and throne across a taxiway onto another hangar. The aircraft inside however seems to have made it through with little to no damage.

Earlier in the day Gov. Cuomo arrived in 1 ship of a 2 set of Blackhawks from the NY Air Guard. He departed on the same approx 3:30pm

Lets just say work took precedence over spotting. Besides with people still suffering in areas without power, I have not even thought of spotting. It's kind of low on the priority scale right now.

Mmm I'm not feeling the love here. :frown::smile: Yesterday was the first day I was able to get over to FRG in some time as I was able to fill my car up. Only got my power back late Monday night and my Optimum service yesterday afternoon. Before that I was able to post via my wifes IPad. Charter Air Transport had 3 of their Embraers at FRG today parked at Atlantic including the one with the Mauiva livery. Since the Main Terminal is under FEMA occupation  the AC shuttles are going out of the Atlantic ramp. They are using the small building by the fence the Islanders used for access to the ramp.

Nice to be able to park in the lot by the Terminal as FEMA has left the room!! Not much going on as it was pretty windy with some nice gusts. Didnt stop Sky Limo 9885 (love that call sign), a Beechjet, blast off on a steep depart off 32 heading to FXE.

What a beautiful day here on L.I. and did a run by FRG!! Was heading home after a stop in Petco and I noticed the AAM L-39 revving up his engines!! Drove over to the lot by 1-9 and got myself a little taste of "Winter Thunder" as he roared out to the South!! Came back 10 later, did a high Fly Over then a right bank and a sharp turn into 1-9!! That was nice!!
And also with the end of the hockey "strike" or whatever you want to call it we'll get some of the bigger metal in FRG when the Isles go on road trips and teams come in!! Probably not as much with the shorter schedule
and our teams only playing Eastern Division teams but still something!!

Whose Huey was that that just (4:30) flew into FRG on the ILS 1-4? Was upstairs dozing off watching a John Wayne movie when I heard that unmistakable sound of an approaching UH1 from the West!! Jumped up and slowly made my way downstairs (just had hernia surgery last week so moving kinda slow) and caught them as they turned onto the ILS which is about a mile to the southwest of me!! Heard a partial ID of N8HA!! Damn that sounded so great that whoop whoop of the blades!!

Big movie/TV film this afternoon on the ramp between Sheltair and the AAM!! The parking lot of AAM was filled with movie trucks!! They had a Russian Mi-8 helicopter in Russian CG colors and later an Army UH1 parked by the hangar door by the old tower. Looks like they might have been filming inside the hangar also. When I found out i took a run to see if the Mi-8 was still there but by 4 it was gone and the UH1 was being used it filming. Looked like the UH1 was prepping to leave around 5:30!

From my "sources" read that this was part of the production of the new ABC thriller "Zero Hour" which premieres tomorrow (2/14) night!! Also read that the UH1 that they used was apparently the same one I heard/saw a week earlier and had been sitting in the Sheltair hangar!!
The same source" wrote that production companys enjoy filming at Republic because the are allowed access to the tarmac to shoot aircraft flying!!

Two hockey charters at FRG today!! Miami Air was parked at Atlantic with its nose almost up to the fence!! Thought that was for the Flyers who were playing at the Coliseum this afternoon though I did know they usually used Delta!! Well at 3:25 Delta Airbus on final to Runway 3-2 taxing over to the rear of Atlantic!! Checked the Isles schedule and they were heading up to Ottawa for a 3 game road trip!! They need to get out of town after todays whipping!!

Very very cool surprise at Sheltair today!! 2 USMC CH-46C Sea Knights were sitting on their ramp when I stopped by around 2PM. Had some time and they looked to be transient so I decided to wait around!! Well didnt have to as in about ten minutes both crews (4 each) came out and after the warm up and wind up they taxied over to One Nine and departed out to the east low and fast!! They were from HMM-774 a Medium Lift Helicopter Squadron based at Norfolk!! It was a nice sunny winter day but pretty windy and when those tandem rotors cranked up it was even worse!! Had to retreat into my car until they taxied way!!

That's a C-123 Provider, Gerald. They were used by the USAF and others from the early 1950s into the 1970s. Most notably, they were used in the Agent Orange spaying in Vietnam. This one is owned by the Air Heritage Museum in PA and makes the air show circuit. If you remember the movie "Con Air", they used a C-123 (not this one) in that movie.

ETA: The Penguins flew in on Friday afternoon, Miami Air 734, arrived just after Noon. Islanders flew in Thursday night after the game.

At 4:50 they flew right over my head in Plainview heading to the NW. The Met game had some aerial shots of Manhattan today I wonder if they were coming from the blimp. The announcers never gave credit to who it was then of course maybe they tried but Keith Hernandez doesnt shut the "bleep" up!!:wink:

In addition to the Metlife blimp there was a lot of T-6 action from the museum today. Both Truman and Deb were flying around.

Here is some aerial footage I DVR'd from the last time the Metlife blimp was over at FRG, I totally forgot about it.

To: Republic Airport Tenants & Users/Operators

From: John P. Arancio
Assistant Airport Manager

Date: August 26, 2013

RE: Main Terminal Ramp Closure
Wednesday, August 28th - Monday, September 9th

The purpose of this memorandum is to notify all tenants of the temporary closing of the Main Terminal Ramp and the Main Terminal Lobby from Wednesday, August 28th, 2013 until Monday, September 9th, 2013. This closure will be twenty four hours per day and is necessary to accommodate a movie production that will be using the Main Terminal Ramp as a film set.

As a result of this closure, ALL pedestrian and vehicular traffic must avoid transitioning the Main Terminal Ramp during this time. Tenants should utilize the Echo Ramp vehicle and pedestrian gates to access aircraft parked in that location and fuel trucks must utilize alternate routes during ramp closures.

Please review all NOTAMs for updates or changes to this notification. If you should have any questions or concerns regarding this notification, please contact John Arancio, Assistant Airport Manager at 631.386.6107.

We appreciate your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience.

NY State PD Greyrider One Four (N430NY) a Bell 430 was at Atlantic today. They headed out to the NW around 2:15 and I'm wondering if they were going to pick up the Governor at an off-site LZ in Oyster Bay. He was up at Theodore Roosevelt Park participating in the annual beach cleanup.
Saw a USCG Dolphin fly past FRG from the S to the NW then about 20 minutes later flew in on the One Nine approach landing at Sheltair. The Tower mistakenly ID'd it as an "Army" helicopter to another aircraft. They
hung out for awhile, refueled then flew out to the NW.
Miami Air 737 still sitting at the back of Atlantic. Islanders have a preseason game in Nashville tomorrow night. Not sure if they leave after tonites first NHL game in Brooklyn against the Devils or later tomorrow morning.

Funny that was the FIRST thing I thought of when I heard the Isles were moving to Brooklyn!!
Now I figure the visiting teams will utilize a closer airport (JFK, Newark?) but I'm wondering if the Isles will continue to use FRG at certain times? I say that because unless the roster changes drastically by the time they
leave most of the players will still live on the Island and they have their dedicated practice arena at Iceworks in Syosset (where both my sons played HS hockey and I had to see Islanders EVERYWHERE, lol)!!
Cool to see the DC-9 there at Sheltair!! And if they are using Runway 3-2 tonite when they leave and I'm still awake I'll probably hear those "stealthy" engines as it climbs out of FRG!!

According to my contacts at Miami Air, the Isles are planning to depart from FRG even with the move to Brooklyn, as they practice in Syosset. After games, could be a different story.
He wasn't sure yet, what visiting teams will want to do, as that is still 2 seasons away.

When I worked in St. Louis a few years ago, the Blues used Spirit of St. Louis Airport (KSUS) vs. STL, also, due to their practice facility location.

The CGI might have been cheesy but the real helicopter was an FRG tenant, Al Cerullo flying his Twinstar N355AG!! And who let the guy with the RPG into the old tower? Where was Derf or Moose? The shootout

Just watched the Oct 10 episode of "Elementary" and they used the tarmac on the backside of Sheltair to film some scenes!! The whole cast were in these scenes and they used a jet and an S76 helo to
film around!! The jet actually took off (Part of the plot, lol)!! Interesting they covered the N #s with false numbers. I knew this because I had driven past when they were filming (no clue WHAT they were filming) and saw that the helo N76XX was NO6XX. I guess they like that location because its away from regular traffic and they get to use the old tower for cool overhead shots!!

That biz jet was N404JW. It has been sitting idle at Sheltair for at least 2 years now. If I recall correctly, it was a repossession, and now is probably worth more in parts than as a complete ship. It was built in 1974, c/n 29, last registered to : FALLEN TRADING. Kind of ironic.

That's right, the MD-81 is really just the upgraded second generation (Series 80) of DC-9s. I meant to say the Red Wings aren't flying their "Old" DC-9-51 anymore, ( the one with the "Red Wings" and "Detroit Tigers" team markings on it), that you were referring to, that's all.

Great pics guys! I was rummaging through this thread when a pic of an old friend popped up. I soloed in N8149R in Nov. '83, at the ripe old age of 18. It's good to see that the old girl is still earning her keep. I also have a ton of time in N5860V, which is a '77 Arrow III that used to belong to a close family friend. It's still in service with Nassau Flyers. The very first hour recorded in my logbook was in '60V. Here's a pic of my dad and I after my first flight in Sept '81. This is what was NFI's ramp, but is now AAM's ramp between Hangar 3 and Sheltair. I've accumulated more than 20k hours since that humble flight up to Rhinebeck and back over 30 years ago.

KFRG is my old stomping ground, as I worked in MX at East Coast Airways from the summer of '82 until I "transferred" to Long Island Airlines in '86. I started washing airplanes and ended up as a pilot, flying PA-31-350s, Bonanza's, Barons, and pretty much every other recip airplane they had on the ramp.

It's neat seeing Hangar 2 being used by the AAM nowadays, as that hangar is the oldest structure on the field, and has seen some amazing history being made. It predates Seversky! I've got a cool picture of an XF91A sitting in that hangar on a dolly in the same spot that I used to do 50 hour inspections on Navajos... If the walls could talk.

I was up on LI this summer and stopped by FRG to see what was new. Gone are the days of walking the ramps and kicking tires! SIDA access now...... Totally different from when I worked there. Heck, shortly after Republic shut down, I walked across the approach end of 19 to the old factory hangar, who's door was partially open. I was able to explore much of the old factory. That'd probably be considered domestic terrorism nowadays! Sad that the history rich Republic factory is now a parking lot.

Thanks for the memories guys.... Keep up the awesome pics!

Did you put up a picture as I am not getting anything except a box with a question mark.
I know NYC DEP used to fly a JetRanger and State DEP flew a copter which for awhile I think was based up in Stewart. They used to patrol all the reservoirs. And the Fed EPA used to fly a Huey Bell 212 w/pontoons back in the 90s and had upgraded to a Twinstar some years back but havent seen that in awhile. Used to fly around low and dip down for water samples.

Over at Atlantic this afternoon an Aerospatiale Super Puma came in about 3pm. Looks like they parked it for the night. N7801F registered to a no name company in Washington state.

Came in again this afternoon from the NW around 12:45. I was in the parking lot by Main Terminal, knew a copter coming in but not what type. When I saw him low and fast SB along 110 I headed over to Atlantic. SOB was already taxing onto back ramp of Atlantic by the time I got there!! Shutdown, refueled and hung out for about an hour before flying out to the NE. Now registered to company in Montana but used by Construction Helicopters Inc for heavy lifting!!

Hollywood at Republic returns again!! Main Terminal filled with film crew!! They were filming on the tarmac outside the Main Terminal with a grey Mustang (I believe) buzzing around and an SUV with a camera attached to a long roof boom following them!! Also saw the area by door the back of the Sheltair hangar coned off!! Not sure if one has to do with the other!!

From Newsday, it looks like they were filming a new movie "John Wick" with Keanu Reeves over near SheltAir on Saturday. The SUV with the boom was in the background of the photo on their FB page, so the action you saw at the terminal may all be related.

I just spotted a Miami Air B734 land to deliver a sports team. This aircraft is the white, with black belly and green cheatline. She was originally leased to the Miami Heat and wore those
colors some years ago. I'll post pics later.

Shes parked on the southwest side of the field off Rte 109.
Not sure how long she'll be there for, but you can check here:

FYI- the second Swift 737 you saw arriving around 6:50 was actually the Bruins charter from PHL to FRG for their game against the Islanders tomorrow night here on LI. BTW, it apparently had to circle around FRG a few times while it was snowing lightly before it landed and then about an hour later it departed for BED, so the Swift 737 should be returning again sometime on Monday to pick up the Bruins after their game.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/01/28/military-flyover-planned-for-early-wednesday-morning-over-the-bronx-westchester/

Two F-16s, a Citation 550 aircraft and a UH-60 helicopter will take part in the exercise at 4:30 a.m.
Wednesday over the Hudson River in the Bronx in preparation for Sunday’s Super Bowl flyover.
The flyover will be conducted about 5,000 to 7,000 feet up. and is expected to last for about an hour.
After the exercise, the aircraft will land at Long Island’s Farmingdale Airport.

It's just too bad it's supposed to be SNOWING in the morning but hopefully we'll

The Marine Corps flies the Citation as the UC-35 for personnel/cargo transport - could be one of theirs. I guess with the F-16s and Blackhawk, you get a multi-service flyover for the Super Bowl.

It had VMO-7 on the body, 112386 also and Mag 38, Quang Tri on the tail. Did research and thought maybe it was an L-4 Grasshopper!! Whatever, it looked very cool.
Also Guard Blackhawk 23615 came in twice today!! Heard them past my house in and out around 10:30AM then just as I pulled up to the light on 109 into Sheltair it departed again out to the North climbing to 5000 feet!

Must have been one carrying equipment/parts. Came in around 5:30 I heard. Today they moved the copter to the north side of the hangar and had a full crew working on the engine including an army truck with small crane!! They left without finishing and the Chinook sits there minus the right side engine. Got this from the Republic Facebook page (along with pics) thanks to Ken.

Yes saw that! They are landing from the north so probably come on on 1-4 unless they change! Also the Chinook sitting here quietly with no activity as of 1PM.

Came in around 3:35 on Runway 3-2. Sun was shining brightly and lots of photogs out along New Highway who all rushed, along with me, to the Sheltair parking lot where the Dc-9 parked!!

Gerard, Chris and I were out there too.

I went back at sunset to try and capture some shots of the Chinook:
