BTW, on page A9 of Newsday today, there's a photo and story about the pilot who flew the A-10 into FRG yesterday:wink:
Chris,
Can you provide a couple of small details like who when why? That rag doesn't let you read it online unless you are a subscriber.

Busy day at Republic & the AAM. Fifi went up around noon but due to a low ceiling they had to cancel the Statue of Liberty fly over. They instead did two touch and goes for the crowd. Here are a bunch from today.

my god she's beautiful!!
When they returned from their first flight, they made a pass down Rwy 19. I had a short lens on the camera, and when I saw her coming, I was about to change lenses to shoot her, but I just stood there, and watched her fly over - what an amazing sight!

Sometimes its just nice to lower the camera and just take it all in. When you are taking pics you are so engrossed in the shot you dont get to appreciate the beauty of the subject.

Great weekend at the Museum. Do we have any idea of departure times for any of the aircraft?
Two of the F-18 static's left this morning, one of the callsigns was AMBUSH 1. He departed off 14 headed south into the clouds, so I could not tell which one it was.
The Golden Knights departed about 1130. I did not have a chance to drive past the museum this morning, so I am not sure what is left.
Word was the EA-6B was to leave today, it might have but I did not catch it. The EA-18G's were supposed to depart Tuesday, but Uncle Sam has his own schedule so who knows for sure.

The B-17 Yankee Lady, the two E/A-18 Growlers, the E/A-6B Prowler and the A-10 Warthog (Commander's ride) were all wheels up by 10:00AM. The two A-10's from the demo team were still on the ramp with their engines covered at 10:30AM when I left the museum.

Fred...you have outdone yourself again. That Fifi HDR at dusk is...I'm at a loss for words. I also love Fifi taxiing past the Skytypers...almost as if they lined up just to salute her.
Finally, the last cockpit HDR...BRAVO! Excellent work.

I can do the same thing with a 40D Moose... Just because the Airforce could not pull thru and the Navy Sent more than expected as usual, do not hate the player, hate the F-22 grounding and not Turkey. After all, if we sent the Blue Angels to Turkey, they would have sent stuff like Special Paint Schemes and Prowlers and Growlers.....Oh wait, they did that anyway! Oh well, I guess next year.... Oh, Blue Angels.... Well.... Ummm....

News12.com is reporting a plane registered to a LI resident crashed in Connecticut this afternoon, with one dead and one injured. From the Stamford Advocate (http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/1-killed-in-small-plane-crash-in-southern-Conn-1419018.php) it was a single engine Piper, which went down around 2:30pm. I wonder if it was based out of FRG, and that's how the story got started.

Very possible. I tried searching anything on the news sites and came up empty.

Around 1PM did hear that an S76 landed and then was heading over to the Belmont pad. I drove past about an hour later and except for a Gulfsteam landing it was QUIET!! In
fact the Atlantic pad was as empty as I've ever seen. And the weather was as dreary as could be so I kept going and headed back home.

I think it was registered out east, so could have been based at ISP or Brookhaven.
Wife and I drove around FRG this afternoon, and except for a bunch of cars by the AAM, the airport seemed empty...haven't seen it this quiet in a long time.

Word is they had a pressurization problem on the way in and had to "don the masks" which would explain why fire/rescue escorted them in to parking. No pics of that, was busy working. :(
Must not have been too bad, as they left about 2 hours later.
Nice catch... Do you have any side shots? I wish I could have seen it.

Tenants were advised today to ensure aircraft are tied down and any loose items on the ramp be taken up or completely secured. They have until Saturday to comply...what the airport will do after that if they don't, I have no idea.

I stopped down for a few hours of stuffing this afternoon after battening hatches at home. There isn't much more room in that place right now - about the only things they have on the ramp are the F-105, F-111, T-33, a couple of other small non-flying aircraft, and a few trucks (as a buffer next to a couple of those tied town aircraft). Assuming there is no damage, it's going to take most of the week to get everything back into place for Labor Day weekend.

I was very happy that I was able to take a ton of pictures of Chris taking his son up for the first ride in his daddy's P-51, I flew in Paul's T6 and the C-47 but that was by far the highlight of the weekend. I was glad to be there to document that moment for Chris and his family. Yes, Chris is a Bada$$ just like daddy!!!!

Great coverage Fred, I'm still bummed I missed it this year. You've really taken another step documenting Chris and his son. I love the portraits of both.
Sunday morning I went for a sunrise flight with Paul in his T-6 and had the Best Flight of My Life... A little cool with the Canopy open and had taken off the headset for a good 10 minutes or so and never felt so at peace. The only two Aircraft seen during the entire flight were on approach for JFK passing 1000 feet above us. To say it was amazing does not come close to this flight of a lifetime. Breathtakingly Peaceful with a side of total content and understood that I would never feel as content as I did as I flew over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge as I see lower Manhattan basking in the very orange glow of the low sun rising over the Atlantic. Flying up there I could not help but wish I was a poet. It was funny that when Paul asked if I wanted to controls I responded "No, I am WAY TOO BUSY" and I was. I was documenting something most people could never come close to dreaming, and in colors that can not be captured with the greatest of imagination.

The Texas Flying Legends Museum brought four war birds to the Airpower Museum today. It was a private event, so we weren't able to publicize it beforehand, but some members of the public did find their way inside while the aircraft were on the ramp.

The markings represent a P-51 flown in Europe by Lt. (later Capt.) Noble Peterson, of New England, North Dakota. His crew chief for the aircraft was Long Island native Robert Coleman. Mr. Coleman was among those in attendance Wednesday.

So here's the deal, boys and girls...sometime Sunday (afternoon or into the evening) a large, four-engined jet, owned by a well known Sweathog, will be arriving at FRG. It will have its vintage red and white paint scheme temporarily covered with a vintage blue and white scheme. It should be at the airport all week, while a bunch of people run around, point cameras at it, and recite dialogue. If you look closely, the airport might have a strong resemblance to Cuba from a few months ago...
Holy crap is that suggestive. I would like to end the conversation here is this info is not for public release. Any discussions should not be on a public forum. Sorry to be the bad guy

I've already seen it posted in several places. Its not much of a secret.
I understand but I am in the know and it is suppose to be hush hush.. I needed to state that and I am glad that the person posting did not know more or post what he knew. From being how round about the statement was I do believe he did know more but do not want this talked about in an open forum as it is not for public release... What I want and what happens are obviously two different things but I had to speak up as I want to ask politely for those in the know to not release private information.

I've heard this from multiple sources, some of them are actual officials in various respects, and have been told it is not exactly a secret. I've gotta be honest, I have no intention of hiding it. How often do people get to see a Pan Am 707 in the air?

Fred you do a lot for us but I have learned it's better to not even give out the info if it is sensitive. I took a lot of heat from spotters in the LA area because I only gave a 30 min heads up about 388LS but when it comes to people's jobs I err on the side of caution. People in this hobby have proven they won't keep it private and feel it's their right so only way to be sure is to keep it to yourself. I don't know how sensitive your source is but some of mine could lose their jobs so discretion is 100%.
I will say I don't know who Phantom is but once you post it in a public forum you can't ask for it to be private. The cat is basically out of the bag.

Sounds like the info isn't that sensitive then. Then again if it was I doubt it would find it's way on the net. Like I said you have to know your sources. As for seeing a PA 707 in person, it's pretty rare sight to see an airborne Tristar too but you don't see me broadcasting it if I get a heads up. Remember to think of the big picture and not just yourself. Even though it's a longshot, people's jobs could be in jeapordy if you get a VIP that is anal about that stuff.

OMG Phil SHUT THE HECK UP!!!!! Men in black suits will be visiting soon.
Actually I think it was all a plan by Fred to keep us all away so he can get exclusive picture rights. And beat Moose to the punch!!:biggrin:

Where?
THere was a post on this board earlier this week alluding to a possible 707 coming to FRG with a link to the "Vintage Warbirds" website Forum. People involved in the "Project" it is being used for were inquiring where they could get one quickly for the shoot. There was plenty of discussion about airworthy 707s and the one that is coming in tomorrow was talked about though
at the time i read it that one was nNOT confirmed. Not sure which Thread I saw it on but it was on this board.

I'll side with Phil on this one. This was no big secret. I read about a possible 707 visit to FRG for this coming sunday about a week and a half ago.

A guy who ABC hired to arrange the 707 posted detailed questions and plans on another site. It's not a secret at all.

As Sgt. Schultz (from Hogans Hero's) would say "I know nothing!"
I would like to clarify a few things...the person who posted on the other site was saying that it was not JT's 707, and there is lots of info that can not be released. Those that are talking should not be because they do not want tons of people hanging around when they are shooting. While it is not as quiet as when the DC-7 came because they were trying to make it a show..... they really do not want people all over the place.
And Phil, YOU WILL NEVER SEE A PAN AM 707 in the air.....
I wish I could share details....

Well that is easily done by shutting down the parking lot, shooting at night and have security/SCPD working New Highway to keep traffic flowing and people out. And face it, just HOW QUIET can you keep it by flying in a B707? Really now. As soon as that badboy was on final tweets, texts, emails and postings would be flowing like crazy. And we could give a crap about the TV show filming. We just want to see the aircraft!!
And I believe its Mr. Woodmans plane so we are all in a heap of trouble. Detention I would say at the least.
Also with that all said and done.....what is the planes ETA?:tongue::eek:
Looks like late night probable... (weeping)

I don't see how that will be an issue as they will close New Highway when they are shooting and there won't be access for the public to hang around. No?

Looking at the sky now not much of a difference. It's horrid out there. How come when Whitebird is in Vegas they get sun and we get this?
