    JFK 01/14/2011

Tried to go out and catch the elusive (for me) Finnair Cargo MD-11 but again, the Blue Fin evades me... so much for scheduling. It was meant to come in at 3:05pm, yay! I was all set, they were using 31R/L and maybe I would get lucky on 31R (it has come in on 31L as it goes to the cargo area north west of the field next to the GAT) ... at 3:00pm, Flightaware changed it to a 5:05p ETA ;-(

    Those pesky schedulers ...

sun is already below by a hair...

Sun now gone for over 20 minutes...

That is a HEAVILY EDITED image. I ran out of Exposure Values at ISO 6400 and f/2.8 so the gods would dictate the shutter... I tried to raise the EVs but then I would have much more motion blur...

You ask what the original looked like?

that shot could have been taken from my grandma's backyard if that was the canarsie approach.
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!

    Thanks Kaz...

727C47 If you mean the AA 777, it came in from the south west, used CAMRN, not ROBER, if that tells you anything. I say South West because I saw it about 11 miles out though my binos as it banked hard left as it approached. It got caught off by two Jet Blues before it passed ;-)

Mark, I do have the Finnair in great light, but from Innwood as I expected it there and it got 31R :-( I am telling you, it keeps evading me for one reason or another whe nI could have had her the first day had I gotten to Innwood in time and not gotten greedy with the Giant Air at HoBe

Here it is from a couple of weeks ago from Innwood while landing 31R. I may have made it had I been in my car as it takes about 15 minutes from when they approach around 15K feet to landing clearance. But I was all the way back by the water all set up. Trekking back to the car and then going over to Panera would have cut it close and I may not have gotten anything LOL. She was late but at least the sun was still out.

i was talking altitude not direction, that MD11, looked like it could have been flying over my people's block, east of Lefferts, they lived a mile and a 1/2 from the threshold of 13L.
