    Virgin America Begins Selling Tickets

    Business Week:
Virgin America to start selling tickets

The Associated Press July 19, 2007, 6:58AM ET

BURLINGAME, Calif. -- Startup airline Virgin America said Thursday it is ready to start selling tickets -- except there may not be an airline on which to fly.

The airline expects more than 1 million seats to be sold for travel between Aug. 8 and Feb. 12, 2008.

However, Virgin said it does not have approval from the Department of Transportation yet to begin operations and will try to find alternative service for passengers, or will provide a double refund on tickets, in the event it is not operational by its anticipated start date. More...
Sure enough, go to VirginAmerica.com and you can buy tix.

Intro fares for NYC: JFK-SFO or JFK-LAX (via SFO) = $139 each way, $389 for first class

By early September from JFK it will be:

    2x LAX
    4x SFO

I have a feeling they may be Jet Blue's new owner within 5 years.

I guess we will have to wait and see if the young but strong jetBlue will fall to the forces of Virgin America; a new offspring of the mighty VA.

JetBlue was supposed to BE Virgin America originally...SRB wanted to start the airline that eventually became JetBlue, but he couldn't because the US has laws against non-Americans owning US airlines.

Their site has been super slow all morning, apparently they weren't prepared for the immense traffic they got following today's announcement and advertising...and now they've temporarily taken the site down.
