    Albany, NY Nov 10th

Had a family event up in Albany this past weekend. Got a late start so the side trip to SWF didn't happen, thanks anyway for the directions Senga. I only had a few hours to spot this time around on Friday. Winds were pretty strong up there 290 @ 15kts, so that's perfect for Runway 28 operations. In the later afternoon the light is spectacular. Keep in mind these shots were taken with the 70-200mm lens....imagine what the 100-400 would give you.

First 3 are from the hockey rink parking lot at the end of 28 around 12noon:

Then 1 from the other side of 28 by the "Correctional Facility" our friends at the NYS Police

...and just to make me long for good shots at JFK, taken late evening with the 28-70mm lens, near the takeoff end of 28.

I have a few more, but let's see what JetPhotos & Anet decide to accept, I'll post the rejections here in this thread. Sunday was going to be my otherday of spotting in the morning, but Mother Nature decided that wasn't going to happen on this trip. Grrrrrrr.

Excellent shots, I was actually at that big hill by the hockey rink around 3:30 on friday, when were you there? I was only around for a short while, less than half an hour. My only transportation is my bike, and i needed to get back before it got dark.

I'm actually taking an areal tour of Albany next weekend, I'll post all my pics from the two weekends once i get everything developed.
    Shoot first, ask questions later.

Hockey Rink 1130-1215, correctional facility 1220-1230, then to Rte 7 Diner for lunch. Dropped off the wife in Colonie, and back at departure end of Runway 28 around 1430-1530.

I LOVE those dpearture shots with the mountains in the background. I don't ever think I have seen any pictures from that angle from ALB. I love how the runway just disapears.
If the sites to accept these shot its their loss.

Great shots you have there. I especially like the NY State Police Bell Huey shot.

    Nice work!

Nice shots Jon! That Dash 8 shot is the best I've seen of them.

    Thanks guys...I wouldn't make a special trip to go up there as the action is dominated by the Commuters (ERJ's, CRJ's, Dash-8's, & B1900) but if you are in the area;
    1) it's easy to get to.
    2) Hassle-free (it seems the spots were paved so people could park & watch, take photos, etc).
    3) The folks up there are friendly!

The shot where I took that Dash from is at the end of a road. There is a HOUSE right across the street whos backyard has an open view of the airport! Talk about a spotters dream! Anyway, the folks who lived there were outside with their kids playing, and waved and said hello. Why cant ALL NY'ers be that nice?

    Nice shots John!

Funny thing, looks like I was at the other end of 28 while you were at the hockey rink.

I just hopped over on my lunch break, took a few shots, then headed back to work. Sorry I missed you!

Nice ones on jp.net! I really like the NW A320.

    Keep up the good work!
