I just looked up Live ATC, it's $3... anyone have it, is it decent?
Live atc is well worth it.
Ill spend the $3 now and buy it, but will it help with today? If so, what should I be listening to?

Thanks just bought the app. The news just showed the Shuttle still on the ground in DC.

OK, I just bought it and am now listening to JFK tower. It also has a feed for FRG, so it will be good for the Jones Beach Airshow as well. I recommend it (I almost never recommend a PAID app, so that's saying something)!

For live atc, it's listed as KJFK NY APP FINAL. There are 2 other approach channels listed in the app, anyone know what they are?
KJFK APP CAMRN on 127.4

According to a map in the NY POST, it was to be at about Yankee Stadium at 11:10 then loop around to JFK. Figuring the upper parking lot at Roosevelt Field would be a good viewing spot, I headed that way. While exiting the southbound Meadowbrook at Roosevelt Field, it flew directly over my head, southbound (at 11:10:frown:). Missed it by 5 minutes. Did make the upper deck in time to watch it loop on it base to 31L.

FML. Stuck in an office on 23rd St where my window faces an adjacent building. Didn't see anything. Very unhappy. I kept having friends text me "OMG DID YOU SEE IT?!?!?" and it just made me angrier.
Darn. And double darn.

With 26 years of working at LGA I really wanted to capture the flyover at LGA, was to high to get the shot I had hoped but got various shots and views up and down the Hudson plus this one on the flyover of Runway 13 from a dock in College Point. It was fun being able to view about two-thirds of the Shuttle's tour of NYC from our vantage point.

I got some really great shots of this! I didn't have tickets for the VIP seating, but knew I'd be able to find SOMEWHERE on-site that I could get pics from... what I did not expect was to end up on the roof of the building right next to the runway! Here are a couple of the pics I shot, more will be up on my website later:

As a fellow newb, my answer is luck. I just happened to hear someone yell out "T-38!!" and I quickly refocused on it, snapped, and then back to the shuttle. Just luck :-)

Tail is N905NA. If you parked at the Lufthansa Cargo parking lot, there is a pedestrian bridge over the highway that has a direct view of the shuttle area. Great spot!

We also had great fun at Battery Park despite the windy chill. News trucks from Eyewitness News, NY 1, and Fox were there interviewing those with the longest lenses. Incredible. I noticed a slightly different flight path then shown on the map. It appeared that the flight turned west over Staten Island after returning from its Hudson trek then headed to EWR, flying over Rwy 29 as scheduled. In the charts I've seen, there was no flight over Staten Island. Instead, after passing over the Statue the second time, she was shown flying directly to EWR, around NJ until N. Manhattan over to Rwy 13 at LGA, onwards to TRACON at Westbury then southbound to arrive JFK Rwy 31L. It's not a major deviation. After touchdown, EWR stopped using the 4 Rwy Complex and switched to the 22's Approach turning to Rwy 29 due to strong gusts. A wonderful time at Battery Park despite the chill.

I saw her from about 20 miles out (was up on the top floor of 30 Rock) and watched her go all the way up the river, make a SWEEPING turn to the west over the Tappan Zee and head back south...it's a sight I'll never forget. Even with the clouds, the vis was superb!

It was AWESOME at Eisenhower I actually put the camera down and stopped shooting just to take it in. That lasted about 20 seconds when I picked up and kept clicking.
I want to thank Nassau 5 for keeping in touch with the ROBER controller the whole time and running LiveATC on the DROID over the van's IFE system (lol) was a win for all around us.

What great shots from everyone from all over. I was at Battery Park City at this little park just south of the museum. I got there around 9 and it was pretty chilly with the wind and not that crowded. The tour copters were pretty busy and listening to the scanner i found out the TFR would start at 10AM. So I moved up to the building at the park to get out of the wind (it worked) and then grabbed a cup of tea. Around 10:10 as i made my way back down to the water I heard one of the PD copters, there were 2 flying around and one on station over Red Hook taking pics, announce that the "shuttle was abeam Atlantic City". They continued to announce its location (not sure what freq cos it was too cold to take out my scanner and look, LOL but I'm believing it was 123.050) then we saw it coming in slowly by the VZ. What a MAGNIFICENT SIGHT!! Gotta say I got chills watching it and not from the cold!!! It moved slowly up north and then came back somewhat lower to the south and by the VZ it turned SW for the EWR flyby then over NJ north towards LGA!!! It was just such a great event and so glad I was able to participate in it.
Amazing sight as the SCA came into view it seemed that EVERYONE, including cops, workers and little kids had a camera pointed to the sky. Yeah i dont see cameras being banned anytime soon!!
Another cool sight were all the little kids from the local elementary school there on a field trip to view this event. I took a quick look as the shuttle passed and you could see the amazement in their eyes. But so DAMN SAD that these young children might NEVER witness or be a part of a space program like we did growing up!! Just really sad and pathetic!!
And loved that after the initial pass to the North the crowd applauded!!!! That was nice!!
Oh and I was wondering where the T-38 was but when i looked at one of my pictures there it was, DUH!! Guess I was pretty locked in.
More stories and pictures all!!

First I just want to add my compliments to so many of you for so many great photos. Something that really impressed me today was how NASA pretty much kept to the plan and did what they said they would as far as doing all the fly-overs and such, not using the winds as an excuse to do an abbreviated version, that impressed me. One casualty though because of the winds while their where some helo's up and about the winds kept the local news helo's on the ground as they could provided some awesome videos that didn't happen. All in all though an amazingly AWESOME day, Giggity !

Awesome photos guys. I was working Acey 5736 out of LGA this morning and was lucky enough to depart right as the shuttle was flying up the Hudson. The upside is that we were really low so we were able to see it almost cross underneath us. The downside is we were below 10,000ft and couldn't take any pictures. But you guys got that covered!

Actually at least one news copter was up over NJ opposite West 30 Heliport. Not sure but I believe it was ABC as they were covering this pretty
heavy. PD had 3 ships up and they were taking a ton of pictures (lots of talk on their Company freq) which I'd love to see.

Fantastic photos, everyone! Great coverage all around. And what an amazing day, an incredible sight to see!
A few random thoughts from the day - when the Shuttle/SCA appeared from behind the trees at Bayswater, I was taken by just how big they looked. Obviously, I've seen 747s and A380s from there, but this combo just looked larger to me. Maybe it was just the excitement of actually seeing it in person. We had a good crowd out, but I was expecting even more folks - although I guess it is a little bit of an out-of-the-way place for many not familiar with it. And thankfully, the guy opened the gate a little before 9am - a few of us got there before 7:30, and were sweating it out. And I'm thankful for an understanding boss, two months into a new job, who simply said "do what ever you need to..." as the schedule kept changing this week. Although I think part of it was because she wanted to show off some cool photos to her kids.
How can you not love the T-38?
Number one on my list of fun airplanes to fly! Extended trail in the T-38 was just a license to steal.

Does anyone know if it'll be parked outside tomorrow? I'm heading out to do some spotting and was wondering if it'd be visible from the JFK Expwy or the Air Train. Not looking for photo ops, just to get a glimpse.
Really great pictures, everyone. Truly jealous beyond words and angry that I was at work.. I am not a hardcore spotter by any means but I have been looking forward to this day since I knew Enterprise was coming here.

Great shots everybody. We're still on a "spotting high" which must last for a long time. I am confused about yesterday's SCA route. The NY Post published their own route map which differs from the official map. The Post map shows there was no fly-by over Rwy 31L at JFK; also the SCA is shown to fly eastbound over the Cross-Bronx to Little Neck, thus not passing over LGA. It also shows no fly-over the TRACON at Garden City but instead a sharp turn over Valley Stream into Rwy 31L at JFK. What was the actual route? I think she flew over Staten Island towards EWR rather than flying through Brooklyn. Where can I see an actual route map? Incidentally, I was at Battery Park and noticed EWR using the 4's during the entire procedure. After the SCA's arrival at JFK, EWR switched to a 22 Approach turning into Rwy 29 due to a gusty wind at 320 degrees.

I try not to use the NY post for any reference points.
And I heard that when President Obama saw the map published in the Post he called the pilots personally to have them change the route so as to make the Post look bad!!:tongue:
BTw are there any areas at JFK where one could see the SCA, stop the car quickly, jump out to snap off a few pics then hightail it out of there?

Folks were still stopping on the Van Wyke as well as families taking photos from the bridge. Lots of PA folks on the ramp getting images as well. Awesome photos everybody. Friday was the ultimate day for spotters. Read my next posting which will make us feel better. I am curious if anybody spotted by LGA, by the GW Bridge, the VZ Bridge or even over the TRACON. I'd love to see those views. The Orbiter looks so great atop the SCA 747; I secretly wish that it could be displayed like that forever at the Museum but NASA would have to de-commission the SCA and remove all of its controls, just as they did to Concorde "Alpha-Delta". The Intrepid is having enough trouble finding room for the Orbiter on its Flight Deck let alone a 747 to boot, but wouldn't it look great!

Start charging-up batteries for June 4. That is the day the Enterprise is scheduled to begin her 2-day journey to Intrepid. She must be hoisted up to then placed on the barge. Great photo ops, though not equal to her Friday journey in scope. She will arrive at Intrepid on June 6. Exact times to be determined. Something to look forward to! This is deja vue for those of us freezing out in the cold by the Hudson not so long ago waiting for the Concorde barge to sail-by. At least June will be a pleasure.
Here's one of the T-38 taking off, not the best quality, mainly due to the haze off of the water:

And here are a few from yesterday. There is a parking lot right off of the service rd of the Van Wyck that no body was hassling anyone at yesterday. We were able to park, take whatever images we wanted (the fairly straight on shots) and then we walked to a foot bridge and took some close ups.

Sadly, by far the most amazing spotting event of all time...I missed. I'm stuck in Florida for 5 weeks of class. So happy that you guys had such a great time with it though!
After years of joking "space shuttle on final to JFK" it really happened. Unreal.

Thanks to NYCAviation for the tweets getting me there at the right time. It took just about as long to get down/cross town as it did for the 747 to get there from Dulles.

I live in Howard Beach so maybe I'll go over to that parking lot and try and take some pictures.
Is this area it's under where the Enterprise/SCA is being kept until it's taken off the SCA and transported to the Intrepid? I thought it was going to be housed inside a hanger.

For anyone interested here is what the LGA fly-by looked like, not sure who took this video but decent view. This fly-by seemed much higher than the JFK one, thinking they ended up being a little higher than the advertised 1000 feet but I could be wrong.

What I would do to be in the back seat.
About 6 or 7 months, I forget exactly how much time I have in it, a hundred something hours, all at 1.1 hours at a time. A handful of those flights were in the back seat - when we did our instrument training, we rode in the back, with the IP up front, so we could pull the hood over. Student pilots weren't allowed to land from the backseat though - landing from the front seat could be hard enough at times!

Thanks for the compliments Mike, and welcome to NYCAviation. I do not have any inside info on the shuttle. From what I read, they are supposed to store the shuttle in an enclosed hangar, as you can see, it doesn't fit into this one. If I had to make a guess, I would say that it will stay where it is for another few days or so until the equipment arrives from DC to demate the two. Once that occurs, they will move the shuttle to an enclosed hangar like they are supposed to. It is currently too tall for such storage. Then the SCA will head back to Florida for the next shuttle going to CA in the fall as there's no reason for it to stay here.
On a side note, I had taped(DVR'd) Cnn's (the NASA channel is not available on FIOS) coverage of the arrival and watched it this morning. They had nice footage, however, when it came for the actual landing, their footage was horribly pixalated! It looked as though they went from HD to something that my cell phone would have recorded. What a disappointment! I don't know if they were correct, they stated that the SCA/Shuttle combination weighed less than a standard 747 filled with passengers, yet said that the shuttle weighed 150,000 lbs. Just a bit of useless info that i thought that I'd pass along if anyone was interested.

Yep, WCBS had a camera on the south side of the runway as well which was highly pixalated. It must have been using some sort of cell connection like LTE or maybe microwave.

For the record, N905NA did a fly by over 4R at EWR. On final approach, the sun went away.
The wind was definately from the south and west. After the fly by, the aircraft waiting for departure made a u turn and taxied to the 22's. It looked like the tower waited to avoid a runway 29 fly by.

Someone posted on the Washington list that the takeoff weight from KSC was 709K for the SCA/Disco combo. Enterprise was a little lighter and obviously there was less fuel for IAD-JFK than the Florida-IAD leg, so you can do the math.

I really thought it would be a little lower in the sky and hoped to get an angle on it with some skyline... but it came in close to the shore on NJ and really I was just at an angle that couldnt get what I wanted.

Great shots people! When I left town on Wednesday this thread was on page 22, logged back in tonight to find it at page 44 and finished catching up after 20 mins or so. I'll have to watch some youtube vids of the flyby when I get a minute. Surreal seeing the thing by Kennedy tower landing on the same runway it would have used as one of those last resort backup scenarios.
I have to say though, that shuttle isn't filthy enough....just sayin...

I saw the Enterprise and the SCA at the JFK Hangar yesterday. I suggest you plan your visit soon as there is already a crane there waiting to hoist the Enterprise off the 747. The security was very nice and understood the intense interest in the Shuttle. There is a parking lot right near the hangar but I think it's for employees only. Beware if you stop along the Van Wyck, the PA will ticket you. I conveniently arrived by city bus as I have no car and could stay as long as I desired. Friday was the opposite, where the Shuttle moved quickly overhead and you had no time to change batteries or change lenses. It was a once-in-a-lifetime blast. Please visit this before it's moved. Where else can we see a craft piggy-back? Enjoy!

After its removal off the SCA, where will the 747 go? To Cape Kennedy or maybe Houston? What will it be used for now? How awesome if the Enterprise could be displayed piggy-back at the Museum. Of course the Flight Deck could never accomodate a 747, but just the idea excites me!

The cranes and equipment needed to remove the enterprise from the SCA have to drive up from Dulles and it will take a while as they are very slow, I believe under 20mph. If I remember correctly the rumor was somewhere around the 22nd of May for removal.
The SCA 747 will be returning to Edwards AFB until its final mission with Endeavor.

Great shots. I researched the fate of the SCA 747 and sadly, it will return to Dryden Resarch Center in California to be used for spare parts. So bluntly speaking, it will never fly again after over 25 years of service to NASA ferrying shuttles. This aircraft should not be broken-up but placed in a museum, but that's my opinion. Anybody know when the SCA will depart JFK? I'd love to see that! It probably won't be for a few weeks.

That isn't what NASA has said, though. One SCA has been retired to serve as a spares source for SOFIA (the 747SP telescope) and NASA has said that the current SCA will remain in service as the crew training and concurrency aircraft for SOFIA, as well as other misc tasks (like transporting Boeing's Phantom Ray for instance).

Wikipedia says the SCA will be sold for spare parts. Hopefully, NASA has changed its mind and will hold-on to her for now at least. Didn't know the LA Shuttle wasn't ferried yet, so yes, she's safe for now. I feared for her safety since '79 after watching the opening to the Bond film "Moonraker". The SCA is destroyed in the opening scene. I've been trying to find a model of the Shuttle atop the SCA as a sad reminder of our defunct space program but they stopped making the Revell model kit 1/144 scale. I made one back in the 70's but it get misplaced. It had the old AAL cheatline. It was cool! Only toys remain as reminders.

1/400 scale is too small. NASA has a model at 1/200 for $200. Thanks. I've been making model aircraft for over 30 years and never heard of Academy. When did they start making models? My prized possession is my fibreglass model of Concorde G-BOAD 1/100 with the Singapore Airlines/British Airways logos. It was shipped from England. I also made a model of the Braniff Concorde which was never flown at 1/144 scale. I have a rare model of the Tupolev 1/144 Concordeski with a retractable nose made by a West German manufacturer. I am a senior now and have no patience for painting and decaling. I have an un-opened 1/72 British Concorde model which if I construct will just fit into my bathtub.

How will we spotters learn the date and time the Enterprise will be removed from the SCA by crane? If the equipment has already arrived, then this could be very soon. We'd have a good view from the Van Wyck overpass. I fear that there will be no mention of this except maybe to the press for publicity. How thrilling it would be to see the Shuttle hoisted off its SCA. I stronly fear we won't learn of this action until it's already been lifted-off. Any feedback would be appreciated. I recall when the Concorde's radome was repaired after the accident at Aviator Sports, the repairs were done without fanfare and I have still seen no photos of the repair. In fact, I still don't know if the radome replaced on the nose was the original or a spare.

From my understanding there are two cranes needed to lift the Enterprise off the SCA so if one is here they have to wait for the second one to arrive from DC. Originally they were looking around the 3rd week of May but that may have changed.

1:72nd... WOW, LOL!! Academy has been around for a while now, they are higher quality than Revel/Monogram/MPC but not as high of quality as Tamiya/Hosegawa. The scale is 1:288, which is a little odd, I know.
Here is some info from my old page on it:
This kit contains the Shuttle and the 747 configured for flight. Both aircraft contain fully engraved panel lines, landing gear and engine detail, a beautiful decal sheet, paint details and a display stand. All of the necessary cradle equipment for attaching the shuttle to the 747 is included. Complete landing gear and engine assemblies for the 747 are included. A clear brown plastic display base is included. One Decal Sheet with Markings for One 747 and Four Shuttles. NASA 747 with Shuttle Atlantis, NASA 747 with Shuttle Columbia, NASA 747 with Shuttle Discovery and NASA 747 with Shuttle Endeavour. Skill level 2.
Specifications:
Scale: 1/288
747 Length: 9-3/4" (24.6cm)
747 Width: 9-1/4" (23.4cm)
747 Height: 2-3/4" (6.8cm)
Shuttle Length: 4-1/2" (11.4cm)
Shuttle Width: 3-1/4" (8.1cm)
Shuttle Height: 1" (2.5cm)

Thanks again for the info. I have been obsessed with this since seeing the SCA/747 fly over my head twice, once in 1984 and again last week. I was able to get a small metal model in the meantime; the SCA length is only 6"; the scale must be 1/400 but I'd like a bigger model. NASA sells a model pre-assembled, 1/200 for $200, which is kind of steep. I wish I had saved my Revell model which I constructed in the late 70's which was 1/144 and cost about $15. Please advise when the second crane arrives, I'm obsessed with seeing them hoist the Enterprise off the SCA. I'm fully retired so any day is fine but I must know in advance. If I could photograph it, I'd love to post photos but I dob't see the options when I reply to a message. I only see Edit Post, Reply, and Reply with Quote. My laptop has a slot for my Memory Card but I don't know how to transdfer those shots to this site. I'd love to share.

When you reply (even with Quick Reply), there are some icons over the box you're typing in. The 4th one from the left is a square that sort of looks like a polaroid photo. Click it, and you can insert a photo. You can't upload though, you can only link... so if you upload the photo to facebook, photobucket, etc. you can link to it & it will be inserted in your post.

There is a very large crane now on the ground at JFK and the support anchor towers seen at IAD are also in place right where the news event took place on the day of arrival. Looks like operations to de-mate will begin soon.
Now, does anyone know where the Shuttle will actually be placed in the water? I have looked around that part of JFK and can't see an obvious pier or dock or any sort of solid surface where the transition can be made safely and efficiently.
Where did the Concorde make the transition from land to water?

One possibility is to transport Shuttle Enterprise up Taxiway Quebec to the northwest side of Hangar 19. Then the Shuttle would be loaded onto a barge in the Bergen Basin. Then the barge would transport the shuttle from the basin to Jamaica Bay, NY Harbor, Hudson River.

OK, I mean once in the water, I know the route... just was wondering about where the transition could happen without too much hanging way over the edge of the sandy beach surrounding the airport. Thanks Luke!

Let's remember that the Orbiter won't begin her journey until June 4 so what will they do with her until then at JFK? Will she be returned to the hangar to protect her from the elements? NASA must be in a rush to get her off the SCA so they can use her for the final destination ultimately to LAX. To the bargain, this week is supposed to rain or even shower until Friday so I'll try to wait til then. NASA would never pre-announce her separation from the SCA to the public.

You can't. You need to take the photos off your phone & put them on your computer. Then you need to upload them to some kind of photo-sharing website like photobucket. Once they're online, you'll have a URL that you can paste into that box. Photobucket is free, here is a link to it: PHOTOBUCKET (http://register.photobucket.com/).

You have to upload your photo to a web site - your own site, or a photo site like Flickr or Photobucket. Once it is uploaded, you get the URL to the location of the photo, and use that to post it here. You cannot upload your photo directly to this site.

Where is the photo located? Post a link to the page, and I'll see if I can figure it out.
I tried looking you up on Flickr, if you use the name Speedbird1, it shows that you haven't uploaded any images yet. If you use a different screen name, please post it or PM me or Moose and we'll try to help you out.
If you can see the image on Flickr, you can right click on it and you will have the option to "copy image location" click this and then that will be your url to insert in your post.

Use the IMG icon above or you can enclose in the tags yourself... the tags are left bracket "[" the keyword IMG and the right bracket "]" no spaces... the URL of the JPG (sorry the video got split) and then end the line wit hte same code but with a right slash or forward slash
So, I will use shortcut

I should have posted my photography questions in the Photography section. This section is for posting about NYC visitors. Again, I apologize. I have 10 years of terrific Hi8 videos in my collection showing aircraft movements around JFK back in the 90's. They will all get dumped after I am gone. It includes the Pokemon ANA, TWA and other treasures. I know they could be transferred to digital but I have no equipment or time. Most were taken from T3 at JFK before 9-11 when nobody bothered me. I don't even know if I could find them anymore in my collection. Most are 2 hours long!

No, I was also kept in the dark about when they repaired the Concorde's Radome before her return to the Intrepid. They didn't want the press or public to see her without her world-famous nose intact! I finally saw her sail on her barge up the Hudson River ressembling Cleopatra (Elizabeth Taylor's) voyage to Rome to be with her beloved Caesar. I have a suspicion that Enterprise will be hoisted off the SCA either during the night or early 1 morning. She will then probably get placed back into the hangar as protection from the elements until early June. We'll miss a rare opportunity. Only those who operate the crane and JFK workers will know. We will probably miss the departure of the SCA, N905NA back to Cal. as well.

It's on the South side of Joseph Hock MD, a lot of vans were parked there. There were no signs stating that you couldn't park there, we even inquired with the people operating the vans if it was OK and they didn't seem to care. We parked, took several shots, and then walked down to the pedestrian overpass to get closer images.
The shots taken from the rear, were taken from the service rd a little further down. For these, we parked on the North bound side close to the entrance. You are not allowed to legally park there. We parked, snapped a few images and moved on. Airport security didn't seem to mind us being there, as there were several cars parked at this location, although NYPD chased everyone away. You only need a minute or so to snap a few images, if police are there, drive around for a minute or two and try again. Please remember that we were there on the Saturday after it arrived, which was two weeks ago, so other than the shuttles location, things may have changed with regards to security. From reading the above posts, there are now cranes there that may or may not be blocking the view, I haven't been back, so I can't confirm or deny this. Please post your images if you go.

I again visited the Orbiter yesterday and had no problems except for strong winds. I stayed well-over an hour to view from different locations. I noticed a lot of activity; especially going up and down the stairs leading to the SCA cabin. The cranes were not blocking the view at all as 1 was on the Bay side. Those wishing to see this should visit ASAP. Enjoy. She might leave shortly.

I saw a security lady chase-away a guy who wanted to use the parking lot. Maybe you need to show an ID. I was on-foot. I was too shy to ask if I could enter the parking area. I have no car so the public bus let me off right by the overpass where nobody bothered me. Try to take the bus to avoid problems.

Just back from JFK on a BEAUTIFUL day. And what an easy time. I pulled up to the bus stop cutout under the bridge, jumped out and grabbed a few shots through the fence. Then other cars pulled up and I saw no PAPD or security around or coming up the road so I walked quickly up the bridge and took a few more pics. When I got back to my car more and more vehicles were pulling up parking on the road and even on the zebra stripes including SUVs, Town cars and even a private bus. Still no PD. I drove south, took a U-turn then drove into the Port Authority lot near the GA terminal. There was covering over the fence but large pieces had been ripped open to allow head on shots. While I was there I heard a siren whooping by the area I was just at and a PA announcement to move the cars. But by the time I left and did another quick ride for one last look the PD were gone and vehicles were once again massing in the area. I guess they werent hassling so much since it wasnt the main road and most people were stopping quickly to take their pictures and leave.
Very cool to see the aircraft up close and personal.

Passed by the shuttle on the way home this evening and the space shuttle/SCA were moved (not under the de-icing tent anymore). I plan on passing through later tonight to see if there is any thing doing.

Had a feeling they'd de-mate the Shuttle late at night. For some reason, they didn't want the public to view. I recall they likewise moved the Concorde very early in the morning several years back. Is the SCA still at JFK or did it leave? It's needed to transport the final Orbiter to LAX. Was the Orbiter returned under the tent to protect it from the rain forecasted for today? Glad I saw this amazing sight for the final time for me on Thurs. Saw lots of action then around the 747.

Same here. I was very lucky with the timing of the arrival. The original Monday date was a no go as i was out of town. The Wed date was also no good as I had two meetings in work that morning!!
Since it arrived at JFK I wanting to go over there but kept putting it off. Saturday I drove my wife into Manhattan (originally to be Forest Hills but that's another story, LOL) then made my way at a relaxed pace from the Upper East Side to JFK with a brief stop at Broad Channel to stretch my legs and use the Porto Potty which is in danger of either tipping over or to be consumed by the sand!!
Now we wait for its trip to the Intrepid. Hopefully that isnt done in the middle of the night either.

Not really sure, but there are rumblings of the 1st week of June (I heard the 6th, but unconfirmed). Also, unconfirmed and rumblings is that the SCA may depart on Friday (they need to bring the flight crew, etc.). I honestly wouldn't hang on hat on any of this stuff, considering that they detached the shuttle this morning. Weather is a key factor.
Eyewitness New states on their website:"The next step will come June 6th, when the Enterprise is moved onto a tugboat and carried around New York Harbor to the Intrepid".
Based on the above, I have a feeling it will be moving out of JFK earlier.

Great shots. Thanks for posting. Guess that NASA and Intrepid wanted few spotters to witness or they would have lifted the Shuttle when more people are around. Now where will they store the SCA until it departs and Enterprise must wait for the barge. In the future. A DVD will be released showing the final journey of Enterprise. A similar DVD was made of the British Concorde's final voyage. Everything boils down to $$$; that's why Enterprise will be hidden in a pavilion which cannot be seen unless tickets are purchased!

The SCA is behind the de-icing tent. You can just barely see the nose of it. Your best shot of seeing it is from HoBe from the bridge. The shuttle is under the tent and will be there till it gets
moved to the barge.
