Two light aircraft collided during the Alba Adriatica air show in Italy yesterday, killing one pilot and injuring another.
The air show was taking place over a beach in the coastal town of Tortoreto when the two aircraft collided a few hundred feet above the shore. One aircraft immediately fell into the water below, killing 43 year old pilot Marco Ricci.
The second aircraft, piloted by Luigi Wilmo Franceschetti, was able to attempt a landing in shallow water in front of bystanders. The aircraft rolled forward upon hitting the water, with beach-goers immediately running into the water to help the trapped pilot. Franceschetti escaped with minor injuries.
