Woman Calls In Airliner Bomb Hoax To Keep Husband From Leaving Her

It’s not clear whether Okieze Ukaegbu intended to leave his wife, Eunice, for good when he went to Newark Airport to board a flight for Nigeria (via Atlanta and Paris). But after their recent fight, Eunice wasn’t taking any chances.

So Eunice called the police while Okieze was driving to the airport, warning them that her husband had told her that he was planning to blow up the plane and may have had a bomb in his suitcase. (She tried to search it but couldn’t open it, she claimed).

“I did what an honest citizen would do,” Eunice told the New York Post the night of the incident.

But after Port Authority Police tracked down an incredulous Mr. Ukaegbu at the airport and searched him and the Delta (ExpressJet) CRJ-700 he was about to board, they realized it was not Okieze but his spurned wife who was possibly up to no good.

Okieze continued on his way aboard a later flight. And now Eunice faces charges for filing a false report.
