Canadian medical researchers and mad scientists are going to have a harder time moving their monkeys.
Canada’s flag carrier on Friday won government approval to end the practice of transporting research primates, which had come under fire from animal rights groups.
According to Nature, the company actually changed its policy to stop transporting research primates a year ago, but the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) forced them to continue after research institutions that rely on the animals filed a complaint.
BUAV, an animal rights organization, said last year that several other major passenger carriers had already discontinued the transport of research primates, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, British Airways, China Airlines and others.
