Phil Derner Jr. – Founder and President
Phil grew up watching planes at La Guardia Airport from his home across Flushing Bay in Queens, NY. Evolving from aviation photography and writing work, he created this website to be the online headquarters for aviation enthusiasts from around the world. He writes for and maintains most sections of the website and performs social media duties while handling public relations and day-to-day business for the organization, including expert consulting for mainstream media outlets.
Phil’s background includes coordinating advertising campaigns in a major Madison Avenue marketing firm, as a US military charter Loadmaster and as an FAA certified airline dispatcher. Connect with Phil on Twitter at @PhilDernerJr or by email for all NYCAviation inquiries at firstname.lastname@example.org
Darin Gilchrist – Lead Programmer and Server Administrator
Darin came on board in 2010 as lead programmer for various projects and future features. Growing up with aviation in his family, he has always had Jet-A in his veins and participated in Civil Air Patrol operations before heading off to college to become an engineer of all trades. Darin is excited to spread awareness of aviation to industry professionals, hobbyists, and the general public.
Mark Lawrence – Producer
Mark Lawrence was born in England and raised in South Africa before moving to the USA in 1998. With parents that were involved in the aviation industry, it was natural that it would grow into one of Mark’s hobbies. Mark has been a long time member and contributor to NYCAviation, which has led to him now coordinating the site’s planned news and event coverage and managing the organization’s team of correspondents.
Matt Molnar – Editor and Director of Technology
Matt joined the NYCA team in 2008 and quickly became an irreplaceable talent in making the organization what it is today. He managed a bulk of written content, supervised all technical aspects of the website, and designed much of its interface while kickstarting NYCA’s social media efforts.
Matt passed away suddenly in January of 2013, leaving a gap that can never be filled, but he will never be forgotten by all those that know him or his contributions to aviation enthusiasm around the world. Read more about our friend here.
