Our Amazing #SpotLAX2022 Event Returns This September

Winter’s chill is upon us. Around here, as we look forward to the warmer weather in the months ahead, we also begin planning our annual SpotLAX event. So it is with great excitement that we can announce that #SpotLAX2022 will be held the weekend of September 16-18, 2022! As in previous years, the event will be a fun-filled weekend of great planes, great views, and great people.

For the fifth time, we will be holding our event the same weekend as Brett Snyder’s “Cranky Dorkfest“. That event will be held on the morning of Saturday, September 17th, at the world famous park across from the Sepulveda Blvd In-N-Out Burger.

Who attends SpotLAX? Anybody who enjoys spending time watching airplanes with a group of like-minded people. While many of us bring lots of camera equipment, it is by no means a requirement. Quite a few attendees bring nothing more than a cell phone, yet they have a great time just watching what comes in. As longtime NYCA contributor Stephanie Gehman said, “Come for the aircraft, stay for the #avgeek community!”

Many people return year after year for this event, though each year we see a number of first time attendees. One of those in 2021 was John Wetter: “As a newbie this past fall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. (I) Can’t wait to be back!” Each year, we see several attendees extend their weekend to include the days before and/or after the official event dates.

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, #SpotLAX2021 was hugely successful. This year, we are following similar guidelines as we did for last year. Among those:

•We will be following all applicable CDC and local health department recommendations, requirements, and guidelines. Please note that these may change between now and the event, and may differ from last year.

•Masks and social distancing when in groups outdoors are strongly encouraged. NYCAviation-designed masks (and a whole lot of other items) are available in our store.

•As the recent spike in cases from the Omicron Variant showed, conditions for holding an event can change rapidly. Last-minute restrictions, including cancellation of the event entirely, are possible at any time.

•At this time, we are not planning on holding any indoor events. We are hoping to be able to secure an outdoor location so that we can once again hold our very popular dinner and raffle. That, like most other details, will be announced at a later date.

•Our Sunday morning “Donuts On The Deck,” sponsored by JetTip will be held once again this year. From founder Nick Benson: “JetTip is proud to support aviation enthusiasts everywhere, whether it be through our new smart flight alert app, or delicious donuts at LAX.”
