Join Us at LAX In September For #SpotLAX2018

The last few weeks have brought hot, unstable air. Summer thunderstorms have been at their peak, bringing with them long flight delays. But in a few weeks it will be Autumn, and that means it is almost time for our annual planespotting weekend at LAX. This year, the event will be held Friday September 21st through Sunday September 23rd. Just like last year, this weekend also coincides with Cranky Flier’s annual Cranky Dorkfest on Saturday morning at 11am. Best of all, most events are FREE!

What else is going on that weekend? Plenty of planespotting and hanging out with other aviation enthusiasts from across the country. LAX sees a great assortment of airlines from around the world, along with some very special planes that call it home. For as awesome as LAX is during the day, at night it somehow becomes even more photogenic. Imperial Hill gives one of the best vantage points for nighttime shooting anywhere.

If you want to get away from LAX for a bit, there are tons of aviation museums static aircraft displays, and other AvGeek goodies within driving distance. You can check out photos from last year’s event here. Who knows, we might even get lucky and see another rocket launch this year.

This is a great event for less experienced planespotters to pick up new techniques from those who have been doing this for a while. Because spotting locations can vary based on time of day and specific aircraft movements, most meeting location decisions are made on the fly. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram for all of our latest location and event updates. Please use the hashtag #SpotLAX2018 if you’re posting from the event so attendees can find one another on social media.

Also, we will be having a dinner on Saturday night at Flights Beer Bar. Dinner is $35.00 per person. There will be a cash bar for any alcoholic beverages. We will also be bringing back our popular #AvGeek raffle. If you’d like to contribute a prize to the raffle, please let us know. Special thanks to our friends at JetTip.net and Flightradar24 for already donating some great swag. Please RSVP for the dinner at this link.

Last year’s dinner event at Flights was filled with fun, food, and prizes.

Our team has also secured a small room block at the new H Hotel Los Angeles located right near LAX. This hotel has an amazing rooftop deck open to hotel guests which is just perfect for planespotting. You never know our group may just end up here for a spotting session. Click here to book a room in the block, or book directly on the hotel’s website using group code NYCA. While the block is available September 21-23, if you need an extension, please let us know and will work with the hotel to try to accommodate your request.

We will continue to update this post in the coming weeks with any additional information. Remember to use the hashtag #SpotLAX2018 and we will see you next month!
