United Airlines has announced the last flight of its 737 fleet. It will be operated by a 737-322 on October 28th under the callsign UA737 on an IAD-ORD-DEN-LAX-SFO routing. The flight is expected to leave IAD at around 6:00am and make stops at the above mentioned United bases where festivities are planned. Upon arrival into SFO, the aircraft will undergo decommissioning work before being sent off to storage in Victorville, CA.

EDIT: The final revenue flight will be opeated by N329UA, and the farewell flight’s registration will be N331UA.

The withdrawal of the last 94 737s (of the -300 and -500 variety) brings to an end a long era of involvement between the airframe and the airline which started on April 28th, 1968 when United introduced the 737-222 (N9001U) on an inaugural flight between Chicago and Grand Rapids. The first 737-322 joined the fleet as N316UA in January 1988 followed by the introduction of the first 737-522 (as N901UA) in November 1990.

The United A320 fleet will most likely fill in the gaps left by the withdrawal of the 737s

In addition to the whole 737 fleet, United is also retiring 6 older 747-400 from their fleet.

UA737 Schedule

ORD-DEN 10:37am-12:24pm
DEN-LAX 1:37pm-3:09pm
