I went downtown (sorry, Uptown) Charlotte tonight to catch some July 4th fireworks. They were being fired from the college stadium next to my favorite spot for skyline photos, so I knew I had to find somewhere else to shoot from. Thanks to some advice I'd gotten from the Photo Meetup group I'm in down here, I was able to find a good vantage point, on the top level of a shopping mall parking deck. They closed the top deck to cars, and there were several hundred people watching and photographing the show. We had to endure two rain storms, and the show started 30 minutes late, but it was worth it.
