Laurinburg-Maxton Aircraft Boneyard (Lotta Pix!)

Laurinburg-Maxton Airport is a quiet little airfield about 2 hours east of Charlotte. Originally an Army Air Force field in WWII, in recent years it has become home to an aircraft salvage operation. They have a number of aircraft in various stages of deconstruction on the ramp. I've been wanting to get out there to do some shooting, and today Adam let me know he was flying in with his CFI. We met at the terminal and took a walk out on the ramp to where 2 NW DC-10s and 3 NW 727s are parked.

This old fire truck was one of several "retired" vehicles parked near the aircraft.

There was a section with doors that had been cut out of salvaged aircraft. These apparently came out of Southwest 737s, there were some that were marked "757 L1" and others with what appeared to be UPS colors.

There were also several with what may be Korean writing.

At the south end of the airport, away from the main ramp, are a number of other aircraft, including a Korean Airlines A300-600, a pair of NW 747s, an Olympic 737-200, and several NW 727s back in the trees.

Moose ..... Great great great images. What a fantastic place it must be to see these old birds especially the Northwest carriers.

Wow, that's a real treasure trove. We associate boneyards with Victorville and Arizona... but after Opa-locka visits and these pics, I may have to change my mind ...
