    KIAD- 12 May 2012

Alright, it had been a month since I had last shot anything new to post here on NYC, so a trip to my stomping grounds up north was in order. The weather was favorable, the traffic interesting, and the company pleasant. What more can a guy ask for? As I'm using a recently calibrated lens, and a new workflow, any critique's would be awesome!

I started my day early (2AM) and ended it late (11PM); so at 21 hours I believe this counts as my longest day "in the field"

Anyhow, I decided to try and capture the beauty of Dulles' iconic Terminal Building at night. The coming sunrise helps to do her justice.

The next two were taken ISO 2000 at 1/40 and cleaned up quite heavily. That being said, both were new type/airline combos for me. And they didn't come out halfway bad for being taken 25+ minutes before sunrise...

United kindly sent us a 767-300ER and a 757-300 during the morning's finest light.

No clue what it is, but its avoided me since September.

This is the day's mystery happening. This A310 put the main gear down several thousand feet back on the runway, and while rolling out, suddenly smoked the crap out of the right mains. No audible sound to indicate tire burst. Stuck break perhaps? They did seem to inspect the gear before he left a bit later...

Battleship Grey is getting so hard to come by these days...

Then this weird experimental aircraft from Boeing showed up. Anybody know anything more about it... ^-^

Scandinavian obliged me by sending the Alliance bird off of Runway 1R

The United 777 pilots now how to treat a photographer to a nice wing dip...

Finally, a different Austrian 767. I was beginning to think they only had one.

First time catching the Saudi departing.

KLM's newest type, the A330-300, only delivered a few months back. Named "New York"

This plane doesn't rotate, it allows for Earth's natural curvature and rotation to separate it from the runway. It is a rather slow climb.

Nick............the early morning Dulles terminal shot is outstanding. It definitely was worth gettng up early. Your new workflow looks good to me, and images look sharp to me, by the way early morning light is a killer. Where did you shoot from? I've been to Dulles only a few times and shot from the museum.

While I love anything that has to do with my home airport, I especially love these pics, especially the 787 and the terminal at night. Nice shots!

ADD? Bole International? What makes it look like IAD at all?

Thanks Guys! I may try uploading the terminal shot to Anet, which I've never done before (a non-plane shot)

    Forgot two...

    Wink

Excellent colors, contrast, and sharpness man. What lens(es) are you using these days, I know you're a Canon guy

Also- might we know this new workflow of yours or is that state secrets

Excellent shots! I agree--they'd be great on A.net and JP.net.

BTW, the biz jet, N78GJ, is a 1980 model Israeli Aircraft Industries Westwind 1124.

Mark- All the shots on the ground, including the terminal, were taken from the roof of the Daily 2 Parking garage, what we call D2L5. The departure shots were taken from the roof of the Daily 1 Parking garage (D1L5).

William- It's no state secret, its more a product of the new 7D being MUCH nosier than the 50D ever was, so I had to introduce some more robust NR into the procedure, not to mention get the hang of CS6. If you are truly interested, feel free to PM/email me :)

Snydersnapshots- I knew it was Israeli, and I've seen 'em come in to Fort Worth Alliance and IAD before, but never where I could catch them. They sure do hug the ground!
