    KBOS 4/30/2011

After checking the weather reports and seeing that the clouds were supposed to break up and become only partly cloudy skies, I decided to head up to Boston. Well.....the skies had not started to clear up when I got there, so I spent the first two hours shooting in horrible light conditions. I had a few moments where the sun peeked through, but for the most part the first two hours were total garbage.

And then the sun looked like it was going to cooperate........but only in short bursts and usually dissapeared again right as the planes got in front of me...

Not thinking that the light would improve and knowing that it was going to be at least 2 more hours of nothing but CRJs, E175/190s, and A320s before anymore European flights came in I decided to go grab a bite to eat. While enjoying my meal I had noticed that the sun was shining pretty good outside. So after finishing up my dinner, I headed back to my spot with time to spare to get the flights I had gone to KBOS for in the first place.

The flights I got while waiting...

And the two main reasons I when to KBOS today. Glad the sun came out for them..

Yes she is! I saw that listed on FLightstats.com yesterday as coming in close to 8:00 and was almost gonna pass on attempting it but then saw this afternoon that she was arriving at 6:30 so got my gear and headed out. Is it still doing seasonal trips to PVD? Would love to catch it there too!

I always felt as though those PVD trips were a myth. I know they used to happen, but I don't recall them happening anymore.

Good stuff, looks like your patience was rewarded! I really like the Icelandair livery, not too busy, good colors, a good solid traditional color scheme.

Thanks guys.....Manny, that is probably the only good shot I got on the LH A340. Even though the skies cleared up when I got pack to my spot the few clouds that were left in teh sky seemed to drift in front of the sun right as all the good catches were coming past me.

Jeremy- Yes, my patience definitely was rewarded. It was good to finally catch the Iceland Air since every time I'm at JFK it either isn't coming in or coming in too late.

I definitely will be heading back to KBOS and next time will spend an entire day there trying out different angles. Hopefully the light cooperates next time.

Looks like the weather cooperated with you at the end--that SATA is awesome, as is the Icelandair!

Steve, I didn't know you were coming up I was there too yesterday, it was disappointing. I left about 5. I was bouncing all over the place taking shots best I could. Your shots are alot better than mine. http://www.flickr.com/photos/spunker...7626493834797/

Gene - Thanks for the compliment! I got there about 1:45 and was shooting from a place (a cement platform with benches) at the first section of parking sots after passing the South Boston Yacht Club. Then about 3:30 I moved over to Pleasure Bay and bounced around a bit to get different angles. I left there a little after 4:00 and went to grab dinner. I got back to Pleasure Bay about 5:45 and stayed til 6:45 since the sun had come out.

What time did Illinois One come in? Man, I've been trying to catch any of the state flag schemes for SW.

I will have to send you a PM next time I head up your way. Maybe the 22nd I'll be up for an entire day if the weather will be good enough.

Thanks buddy! I was happy to get the AF 747. Wish it had been in better light though. I got excited that the Lufthansa was gonna be a 747 also, but ended up being an A330. Oh well. I still got the LH A340 to make up for it.
