    Spotting planning for 2011

    Hey guys;

    I would like to get some feedback/experiences from the "experts". I am planning my spotting trip for 2011 and the short list is KMIA, KLAX or PANC. The time frame in mid-late June for 2-3 days.

    I think all three are spotter friendly. My goals are; new airport, new liveries, cargo and anything not Delta.

    I have spotted at KLAX before, but with terrible weather

    Any input from those who have spotted at any or all three of these airports! Weather, cost, access, need for a car, etc.

    Or if someone has a better suggestion I am all ears!

    I would go to LAX or ANC not MIA.

    Interesting- why not MIA? Isn't there a good chance of seeing some older planes from South America go through there?

    I'll most likely will be pulling the trigger and going to LAX in March to do some spotting. Last when I was in Los Angles for business last June the weather was bad as well (June gloom). I can't speak for ANC and MIA, but I find LAX has so much variety. I'm hoping one of these days to make it to ANC and MIA as well. The cost of my trip to LAX in March would be about under $500 (round trip Air Fare about $380 from JFK to LAX, rental car about $70 or $80, and hotel would be free!!!! (time to use to hotel points). Some money for food of course, etc.

    I second Nick, LAX or ANC. LAX has tons of variety and easily accessible spotting locations. ANC has an amazing backdrop and crazy cargo traffic with lots of heavies.

    In June i would personally worry about LAX or MIA having more heat haze, so my personal preferred choice would be ANC. That being said, I believe any of the 3 choices would be interesting for the variety they each have.

    MIA will have a ton of haze as will LAX but at LAX you have IN-N-OUT which in June will be perfect. Better traffic, spots and you also can get some cool weather in LA which you won't in MIA.

    Thanks for the feedback guys. I am surprised about the lack of support for Miami. Oh well. Logistically LAX is more manageable than ANC. I guess I will move it to the top of the list for now.
