Hey Mark, it was great hanging with you on Sunday. 13L is definitely a lot of fun. However, I need to really research the issues with my 200-400mm f/4... seems either VR is playing games with me or I am not properly adjusting to it :-( I am turning it off for the next few sessions to see what I get. A lot of my images were smeared!! Some of the long distance ones were OOF which I am blaming Heat Shimmer / Haze but it was most likely my own technique.
Case in point: The original of this Iceland Air Cargo rotating on 13L is a mess...
Anyway, my faves from the day were:

Awesome shot of the Etihad! Some times you're better off staying put than moving around from location............those ATC guys will play hell with you.
Another shot of Air China climbing out

That Etihad shot...love the sky.
I can't wait to see the A380 touch down on 13L for myself, or 13L departures for that matter.
Yeah, almost missed it... the area is CRAWLING with Yellow Cabs and I tried to time it and get out of the way but ended up not being able to stop in time. I wanted to try and get a somewhat head on shot... or maybe time it so it would be flying overhead... I had my sunroof open and a fisheye lens on my other body in case I could :-)

I love that "strike bird" underneath the tin can. Shocked it can land on 13L. that runway hasnt been modified for the 380 if my knowledge serves me right.
Who me? spot every day? Nah... (hehehe) well, if I happen to be NEARBY I will swing over for some shots. I am basically practicing photography of large metal objects moving slowly in the sky. You never know when you;ll need those skills!![]()

Fantastic Pictures!
What spot do you guys use for 13L it doesn't appear on the spotting guide!
gonzalu, I think it was you that My girlfriend and I saw at the mounds! Did you make it back for the A380?
Thanks,
Louis
Lois, yeah man, that was me :-) Apologies for the foul language, blame the routing of the Emirates A380 for that LOL.
Unfortunately, I saw it touch the ground while I was around Little Mecca which is near the Taxi Ops area by 13L... way late for me to get ANY shot at all. I "ALMOST" made it... Would have had a shot was it not for the unusually heavy Taxi traffic to the holding pen which totally set me back about 30 seconds. I would have loved to have made it to "The Spot" for it but that would have been another 5 minutes.
Thanks and cheers!

Would be much better to continue that convo via PM no?Ahh ic! Is there a particular location thats favorable for 13L?
Because 13L is not really in the spotting guide!
I see a huge taxi cab lot by 150th street and Center cargo road? Can you park in this area?
