MIT-Designed, Fish-Shaped Airliners Could Burn 70% Less Fuel
A team of MIT researchers has unveiled their aircraft designs for NASA’s N+3 initiative, an engineering study intended to help define the next three generations of commercial aviation while reducing fuel usage by 70% and NOx emissions by 75%.

As different as those 2 designs look imagine how different a 777, or especially a 787 would have looked back in say the DC-6/Connie days if aviation enthusiasts could have seen photo's of them back then, or a Concorde !

I happen to like the look of the second design. However, I can't help but be reminded of the Boeing Sonic Cruiser design. They look similar IMO. Too bad they canned that project - I thought it would have been a good aircraft to somewhat fill the void left by Concorde.
