Why Air France A380 Diverted on May 8 ?

It was strange at JFK on May 8 as all of the European inbounds were delayed, some over 2 hours. Was this caused by the volcanic dust cloud over the Atlantic? A group of us was waiting for the Air France A380 arrival (AFR 6) which was due to arrive 2 hours late when it suddenly was diverted to Boston. Why was the A380 diverted? Is it because after 1700, arrivals were landing on 31R. Can the A380 land on Rwy 31R? I posted separately about the wind storm yesterday on the JFK tarmac.

I believe this was actually due to the high winds at JFK. Many aircraft diverted.
