What does an airplane photographer do when it's super windy and clear and they are landing on the 4s at JFK, but he only has time in the late afternoon when everything is backlit? Take the A train to Mott Ave., bring a nice novel (Michael Chabon's "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh" -- no, it's not about the US Airways failed hub in PIT, but highly recommended anyway) and sit at the lone picnic table in Bayswater Park waiting for the sun to go down.
Of course while the sun is still too high for anything decent, Wunala shows up. Never seen the damn thing once and when I finally do it's unshootable. Back to the novel and wait some more... until 7ish:

G-VGAS
G-VIIM plus local fishermen in a boat
Where's a 747 when you need one? N517UA way too small in the frame, but still kind of a workable atmospheric shot
Not the right season yet for good sunset shots, but getting there. Taken with a D200 and an 80-200 2.8 AF-D, shutter priority at 1/1000 and f/8 or 500 and 11, and exposure compensation -1 or 0.7 stop to make sure the silhouettes really turn out as silhouettes. Fun afternoon. No photogs there, only me and the fishermen plus some local kids throwing stones in the water (better that than trash!)
