    H19 JFK 2/12/10

Went around H19 to catch the Evergreen 747 over there that struck the structure. N485EV is AOG after stricking the structure inside while pushing out of the hanger several days ago. This bird is one of the few 747's with the JT9's on it. It is also slated for a D check in the near future.

The skin that got struck. Taken off and awaiting scrapping.

    I couldnt resist

I love this shot. Its so nice with the JT9's.

A rare appearance by one of Quantas's non ER's. New paint job and another special scheme to nab at. This one will be even harder to get since its mostly the ER's that come in.

Really very nice Nick. That QF catch, which I logged on my acars and cursed at, should please you that much more when they discontinue B744 service and commence A330 service here. Very nice indeed.

Nice catch, Nick. I wonder what was wrong with the Qatar 777?

Kenny, nothing has ever materialized that suggests that Qantas plans on downgrading to the A330. There is no change in the schedule for the foreseeable future and the A330 has been pulled from the AKL-LAX route.

Really? Last I heard, QF was going to pull JFK off the QF0107/108 route and add it on to the QF25/26 served by an A330.

Wow now that I looked, even QF25/26 is a B744. I guess the info I got a couple of months back was no good. Anyway, nice work again Nick. IMHO, your best so far.

I remember hearing the same thing - I thought we discussed it here, but I don't find anything with search...

ETA: Found it - Tommy posted it in September:

This is public knowledge from Qantas that I obtained from their Chief 767 Training Capt.

Tommy posted in September. Did "early next year" mean early 2010? There has been no official schedule change announced and if you search into fall 2010 QF107/108 is still operating as a 747-400, as is QF25/26 into LAX.

I personally fail to see why Qantas would change JFK to QF25/26, primarily because that changes their New York destination to Auckland instead of Sydney. QF25/26 also does not operate daily.

I assume that's what he meant, but he would have to answer himself.

I dont think 100 pax on a 744 is making money at all. That was today's pax count on QF107.

You would probably know better then I would, since you work the aircraft, but apparently Qantas makes a decent amount of money through cargo revenue to JFK, hence why they keep the route. A smaller aircraft would make sense passenger wise, however if they are indeed making decent money through cargo, keeping the 747 on the route is logical. I imagine once Qantas receives some of their 787s that we will see those on the route to JFK.

However there is definitely a market for an Australian flight from New York. I've heard the Delta flight from LAX has a lot of connecting passengers from New York and New York is also a potential destination for V Australia, although I doubt that will materialize.

True there is always alot of cargo on Quantas but if the pax count keeps dropping there will be a cut off point. I know its the slow point of the year but 100 is still really low. I would imagine something happening in the future if that keeps up.
