    Re: Indianapolis

I visited KIND several times when I was in the Chicago area 1996-2002.
How is photography at KIND now? The last time I was at KIND they closed down the viewing park just after 9/11

Hey Senga. KIND isn't spotter friendly anymore...or if it is, I've just not found the right area. The best spot for me is on High School Road/Washington Street. There's an Arby's and some other restaurants in the area that make for some pretty good spotting, but it's not like it used to be with the park. I miss that place!

    Re: Indianapolis

IndyRick, we have a IND spotter on here CRJ200Dispatcher. he will I'm sure respond when he see's this post.

I have 3 friends who live in Indy who are all airlines employees and airline enthusists big time but are not really photoags. I have shot their before but it was before the new terminal was built and I know a lot has changed since then.

    Good luck to you

    IndyRick,
Sorry to hear about IND not being photographer friendly anymore. When I was there there were 2 viewing parks on on each side of the airport and the Mennonites frequently would show up in large groups and watch the planes. I guess that's long gone now.
Restaurants? Arbys? Yes things have really changed.

    Ron?
A new terminal? Wow I never knew they put up a new one.

So the cops give people a hard time there?

    Re: Indianapolis

The new terminal is beautiful and does offer a nice view of the ramp area from the gallery, and photography is possible.

There are ample places around the airport property with at least a 300mm lense, and you might be able to get away with being the parking garage which offers a nice view of arrivals to 5L and 5R.

Only if the airport police do not harrass you. Another person tried to restart the Indy Spotting Group, but his attempt was pointless. Lied to people about the airport authority giving permission to photograph from the parking garage. Another goos spot was the parking lot of the old International Arrivals Building, which the arrivals to 23R flew right over, and alot of the time the police in the parking lot had no issues with me spotting, but I always asked if they had any issues.

I do not think the Airport Police would have an issue, but you have those few bad apples who think they are holier than thou, and got smart with them when asked to stop.

Before the new terminal opened I was spotting on the old parking garage, and an airport police came up to me and asked me to leave, and photography was not allowed, well we ended up talking, and he let me stay.

Who knows maybe I will re start the group, only this time include more than just one airport, Indiana and Ohio have some great airports that are not covered by spotting groups already in existense, CVG/SDF/FWA/DAY and all the surrounding General Aviation Airports.

    Interested Rick????

Wow that new Terminal looks nice. The other one looked like a Detention center from the outside :)

I came across this shot I took from the west part during one of my trips.
They even said please!........where did those days go?
    KIND

Can you still drive between runways 23L, 23R like in this shot?

That L-1011 was flying for Trade Winds Cargo in basic British Airways colors.

Yes I LOVE the L-1011. I love those 2 pairs of rotating beacons on the top and bottom of the fuselage they had- very unique.
