Commuting woes this morning (in NJ)

It really seems like today would have been a good day to stay home. There was quite a bit of meltdown on the trains in NJ today. PATH trains into/out of Hoboken (a major rail terminal) weren't running because of a couple of track fires. (Solution: Load everybody up into the light rail and sent them down the line to other PATH stations were trains were running). NJ Transit also had big problems, with a wire down near Newark. Apparently a couple of stations weren't being served as a result, because there was no way to get them through on the track with the platform.

The Metro-North was also having issues today. You can tell who in my office lives in the city, because everyone else was late to work :)

I have numerous friends/former co-workers who work for the LIRR, one is a block operator and she is currenly assigned to the tunnels around Penn Station, she works in a comand center nearby and works in the same room with staff also from Amtrak and NJ Transit. Anyway she called me last night and I asked about Thursday morning and she said it was a HUGE mess, one of her worst days so far in that position.

This morning I took Metro North all the way from the Bronx to 125st, a long 9 min ride and it was smoth sailing !
