    Maximum Internet "Ownage"

This has been going around the internet the past few days.

On a car site, some guy made a post that was determined ot be spam for gamgling site the guy owns. The guy said it wasn't his, but people started doing research, finding his name in "WHOIS".

Further research also found that the person was a registered sex offender for becomign involved with a 15 year old. The people on the message board also found all of his personal information and his MySpace (now deleted).

Here's the link. There's over 30 pages of discussion, but it reads like a book and perhaps should be published.

    Simply...stunning.

I'd hate to use the term like this, but this guy has been pwned like no other.

    Re: Maximum Internet "Ownage"

I found another one which is maybe even worse.

One guy on a truck message board sold another guy some gears for $100. The buyer sent the check, and when the seller received it, he cashed the check, and edited his post to say $125. The seller then told the buyer that the wrong amoung was sent, and the gears should not be shipped until the remainder was sent.

This is fraud. Though called out on it, the seller kept fighting it, digging himself deeper.

Everyone ganged up on the guy, found all of his personal info, address, name, parents' names, parent's photo, family background, his job, his school, etc.

They posted part of his home phone number (shared with his parents), with the last 3 digits hidden by asterisks. They declared a 3 strikes rule, where each time he didn't comply with correcting the problem, they'd share another digit until the whole number was shown to the public. The guy kept diggin himself deeper and deeper. He just refused to man-up and give back the money.

After I think about 6 weeks, the buyer got his money back and it ended.

I read stuff like that and I just can't understand how certain people behave in certain ways.

It just shows the easy access to information on the internet, and the ability to wreak havoc on a person's personal life in a conflict. These two guys faced a punishment for poor behavior, but what if it was an innocent victim? I applauded and laughed when I read the above links, but part of it is actually quite frightening.
