That is impressive. I love the slide-in filter area there.
To see an aperture like 2.8 on such a long lens that's a ZOOM, is really something.

Holy crap!!!
Yesterday, I was in B&H looking for lenses and a camera bag. I said to the bag guy, I need a backpack that can hold one body and three or four lenses. He says, what's the biggest lens you need to carry? I told him that I'd be renting the Canon 100-400L on occasion, so I need something that is long enough and wide enough to carry that. He gets this incredulous look on his face, and he says, "You mean the f/4.5, right??"
It was funny.
The guy said it comes with a 2x teleconverter. That cuts it down to f/5.6, still not too shabby.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.

the 5.6 is now shabby, you just need to mount it on an SUV to take it to all your spotting locations.
I wonder how much that thing weighs! Good luck hand-holding that beast!
nwa FOREVER!
I did some research on the key specs...
Weight: 28 lbs (35 lbs with hood)
Price: Not yet official, but in the $10,000-$12,000 range
