The thing that's amazing is that this strike has been going on for quite a few days now...and no one cares.

Well I have to disagree. But it will really make an impact if it goes on for a long time and you are a
fan of television. Already Fox has announced that "24" with only 8 episodes filmed WILL NOT start
the series until the writers return. They had planned for a January opening. "Lost" might not start
at all either and when "Heroes" ends this arc of episodes in December they already had filmed an
episode that not only will not only conclude the arc but can serve as a season finale. I mention
these shows because they are three of my favorites but it will effect all shows probably around
January. And of course all Late Night (Leno, Letterman, Conan) is cancelled until furthur notice.
Get ready for a steady diet of......ugh.....reality TV.
Me, I'll spend more time at TCM!!! My DVR is regularly filled with great old movies!!

So what is it that they are asking for?

Maybe this will get people to read more books.

    >So what is it that they are asking for?<

With so many shows and movies now being webcast and downloaded the studios are raking
in more money than ever. The writers want a piece of that pie. When they negotiated their
last contract they totally underestimated how big DVDs and VHS tapes would be and lost a lot
of $$$$$$ (that was 1988). They are determined NOT to let that happen again.

    > Maybe this will get people to read more books<

That would be nice. I love reading and have almost missed getting off my stop on the LIRR a
number of times because I was involved in a great book. I wish I could get my kids to read more
but they only do so for school not pleasure.
