West Coast Trip: Part II LAX

Well after visiting Seattle for a few days Raj and I made our way down to LAX for some spotting.

    Here are some shots.

Eric some great shots and better yet great company. Sorry u had to head east. (Lets get Tom and others for WSSS trip.. it will be gaurenteed fun :D .
Heres some of my stuff for NYC members and also added this morning quick edits.

Ah, El Al jet at daylight hours,

    From In-and-Out berger lot,

    Lets head to Tahiti :yahoo:

New traffic into LAX these days,

    Fully loaded cargo hauler,

Trying some night scenes at LAX,
Kiwi being towed to TBIT for late evening departure,

Two China birds in the night,

Late evening busy scene at TBIT.

And just returned from 2 hour spotting trip to Victorville field as the stupid Marine layer is ruining the day @ LAX
Heres some of the stuff, while I was there for 30 minutes winds picked up bout 20+ knots and we had reduced vis due to sand storms!

This three-holer in perfect spot, not sure where its from.

Foxtrot-Foxtrot, may U rest in peace.

Looked like this just arrived at Victorville yesterday.

Excellent. That Air New Zealand shot would look sweet in HDR.

Yes its auto-exp bracketed for HDR, as soon as I update to new version of CS :)

And must say Eric is tenecious... after spotting till 22:00, he left the hotel room again to catch the bird at midnight! And he got the shot he was looking for (since he missed it earlier in the day trying to position himself at a different spot).

Wow some great stuff!!! Now you guys made me more anxious :) I'll be going there in week and a half :)
How long is the drive to Victorville from LAX?
I've been thinking about the drive on a Saturday but I'm not sure if its worth it.

    Take care,
    Rafal

Re: West Coast Trip: Part II LAX

Rafal, I was in Diamond Bar area so it took me about 65 mins (61miles). From LA I'd say about 1.5 hours. Is is worth it? It depends, I would not have gone if LAX was sunny. In my last 6 trips I love visiting LAX just for sheer traffic and variety. Victorville does not provide any access that I know of (I called ahead). Taking pics from fences was Oked by the OPs! However it also depends on the position of aircraft parked. Only ones that are parked airside next to tower will be worth shooting, other being very remote. So you are talking about 6-12 at most, but then again one of them could be rare. Have a great time in LA.
    Raj
PS:You can actually shoot LAX in am and then go to Victorville in PM for late afternoon sun. Traffic going will be busy Fri & Sat afternoons and heavy coming back on Sun afternoon (LAS Casino traffic :-)

    Dear CX777,
The stored DC10 at Victorville, belongs to Das Air Cargo.
This airline is registered in Kenya and used to fly into Brussels.
Since the airline is on the "European Blacklist", it had to stop regular flights in Europe.
More info about that airline : http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/DAS%20Air.htm

Thanks Raj for the info. I guess I'm gonna skip MHV and VCV in favour of full day at LAX.
Day after spotting trip to LAX I'll be flying back west to Marana :) At least I know that airport ops wont chase me away from there :)

    Thanks again,
    Rafal
