al-Qaida Has Rebuilt Strength, US Says

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded al-Qaida has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since just before the 2001 terrorist attacks, The Associated Press has learned.

The conclusion suggests that the group that launched the most devastating terror attack on the United States has been able to rebuild despite nearly six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at crippling it.

Still, numerous government officials say they know of no specific, credible threat of a new attack.

A counterterrorism official familiar with a five-page summary of the new government threat assessment called it a stark appraisal that will be discussed at the White House on Thursday as part of a broader meeting on an upcoming National Intelligence Estimate.

The official and others spoke on condition of anonymity because the secret report remains classified.

Counterterrorism analysts produced the document, titled "Al-Qaida better positioned to strike the West." The document pays special heed to the terror group's safe haven in Pakistan and makes a range of observations about the threat posed to the United States and its allies, officials said.

Al-Qaida is "considerably operationally stronger than a year ago" and has "regrouped to an extent not seen since 2001," the official said, paraphrasing the report's conclusions. "They are showing greater and greater ability to plan attacks in Europe and the United States."

Good thing we sent 140,000 troops on a 4-year (and counting) deployment into the country that was al-Qaeda's main source of funding and operations. Oh, wait...

The International Community needs to battle Al-Qadea globally.

They are building up around the world & the sooner the world community takes notice the better.

While they are being killed in Aghganistan & Iraq, they are running free in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Europe, Philippines, etc.

Damn United Nations should declare war on Al-Qadea & start wiping them out....

By saying "regrouped to an extent not seen since 2001," does that mean that Al Qaida suspciously became larger right before 9/11, or that it's lost members since 9/11?

    One Solution

I say let's begin using bunker busters and carpet bomb the Pakistan-Afghan border.

OR we could rush development of alternative energy and let them drown in oil which would have no value. Cut off the head (funding).

Time to let them pound sand once and for all.....

Iraq may have been timed badly but it had to happen--time to find the real bad guys and wipe them out.

The Shiite Muslims and Iranians will kill Al Qaida in Iraq in the short term. Thats whats going to happen, isn't it?

Will Al Qaida's soldiers then be the US Allies against Iran's mullahs?

    What a f*7king mess. Really.

There is only so much hope I have of headway going to be made in all these countries worldwide, when we see the United Kingdom lets Islamic fascism run wild in their mosques.
