    Englishtown - NHRA Drag Racing

Spent the day at Englishtown, NJ for the NHRA drag racing event. It's been a few years since I've been to E-Town, and the first time I've been there with the DSLR. Here are a few shots...

    Holy Smoky Burnout, Batman!

Hey, that looks like my car! Of course, I don't have the big hood scoop, or the Hemi, but still :)

This is Doug Kalitta - yes, he's one of those Kalitta's. He is the nephew of Connie Kalitta, a long time drag racer and the man behind all those Kalitta Air 747s you see. Doug also owns Kalitta Charters, with a fleet of aircraft for charter and cargo services.

Shooting at 1/1000, I still can't stop the tire!

At NHRA events, the pit areas are all part of where you get to wander around with your admission. It gets loud, but you can get right up close to all the action.

Off in the distance, I saw this FedEx freighter climbing out of EWR.

    Nice shots Moose.

I have never been to Englishtown, but I do remember the "ahahahahaha Earthlings" radio ads very well... :)

And they have that sound clip on their website. So last Friday, as I'm checking their schedule, etc. in the office, every time I return to their home page, it plays that clip. Finally turned off my speakers before the boss stuck her head in my office wondering what was going on!

Nice shots, Moose. I was really into NHRA for a couple of years awhile back, thanks to my uncle who would take me to Englishtown a few times a year. This was right around when the 300mph barrier was broken, the national event was called the Summernationals, Nobody Beats the Wiz sponsored a funny car, Ashley Force was probably about 9 years old and reality TV hadn't quite been invented yet.

No shots of the bizjets next to the track? :)
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
