    Spotting 6/20: JFK

Here are some shots from this afternoon.

This shot was two years in the making. All of the pieces finally came together. The last time I attempted a Wunula Departure Shot I was standing at Inwood park and she banked early and all the shots were backlit.

Glad you got the Vietnam Eric.
Congrats. I remember I waited a whole day to get a shot of that aircraft arriving at JFK 2 years ago or so.

Nice work Eric; glad to know you've finally captured something you'd been wanting! Anybody have any info regarding the Vietnam 777 -- ie. purpose of visit, how long it was in NYC, etc?? That's so wild...wish I was there to have caught it. Ah well, maybe it'll be back for VIP week!

The Vietnam 777 is taking their president for his first US visit. I don't think it will return to JFK again. Who knows, maybe after the official state visit, they will start a direct fly to US in the future.

Lucky you caught it in its first visit to JFK.

Its been to JFK before. The last time it came in it was cleared for the Carnarsi approach and went around twice. Apprantly the pilots weren't able to perform the approach and she came in on 22.

The first time HVN hit JFK it was a night time arrival. The Pilot tried the Canarsie arpproach to 13R (I knew he wasn't going to make it..VIPs and one timers often don't make CA to 13R without a second try. The controller asked Hotel Victor November **** would you like to try the approach again? We understand this is your first time at JFK. If you would like we can give you 22L. The Vietnam Pilot (With angst responded with "No!, No!..TWO TWO LEFT!! TWO TWO LEFT!! We accept 22L!

He didn't contacted departure for like 15 mins after heading 090 and stayed at 2000ft way over Long Island.

I´m so glad you got a great shot of the Vietnam, Eric! While sitting in the takeoff line for 13R on my Delta flight to ATL she rocketed passed me and I was thinking how great she would have looked from Bayswater!
