it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I believe you have to be a police officer first like the pilots. Put your time in on the streets and hope there is an opening in the unit. And they like you and you qualify.

NYPD Aviation does not hire civilian A&Ps. All MX personnel are Police Officers. Every flight has an A&P onboard acting as a Crew Chief. It is very hard to get in without a big hook. I have a friend who flew for a 121 commuter operation for 4 yrs and has been an NYPD officer for the last 6 yrs and is just getting his nod.

the pilots are also civilians. they fly with at least one sworn officer onboard who operates the cameras etc.

Here in Suffolk, the pilots are SCPO's and the mech's are civilians. Hmm, maybe I'll take that NYPD test after all...nahhhhh.

And the flight medics are from Stony Brook University Hospital. What about Nassau? I know the pilots and AEMTs are POs but what about their mechs?

The A&Ps for NCPD are MOS. I know a guy in the 4th PCT who has been looking to get in for a while. Again it is very political
