The quest for a 70-300 IS

Who would have thought that buying a lens would be so difficult? Not me, but after 6 ebay auctions I now understand never to buy lenses on Ebay!

I went through 6 70-300 IS auctions this weekend, loosing each by mere cents almost every time (I snipe!) I am on my final auction, I have raised the bid higher than I would like to go, but it is still cheaper than a new one. If this one falls through I am buying new. I will pay the extra $75 bucks to save myself the hastle!

Anyone else have trouble buying a lens before?

eBay is typical for things like that - there are people waiting for the last 25 seconds and will bid then - I've done that too - got a 2nd hand server for my previous company for a song - by waiting for the last 25 seconds. It never fails! :)

25 seconds? I snipe, all my bids go through an automatic program at 7 or so seconds, depending on how I set it. Ive gone as low as 3, but I try to stay a bit higher in case of a slow ebay server.

Alright, lost the last Ebay auction, some idiot bid OVER what you could buy it new for....

I bought it new today from ProFeel for $540 with free shipping. Should get it next week in time for some spotting at DTW in 2 weeks!

Congrats on the new lens. I got the same one from B&H a few weeks ago for about the same price including shipping. I'm happy with it so far. :D

I think it's so much better to buy it in a store, regardless of price.

With important equipment like lenses and cameras, you need to have warranties or some kind of protection should there be something wrong with it. Think about howmuch moeny and howmany photos you'll be out if something goes wrong.

That is exactly what turned me to a store instead of more Ebay auctions, it was mainly the lack or warranty.

Profeel is a good store, and I got it for a good price. So, as of the 31st of March, be ready for some new aviation pictures!
