    JFK Aircraft Parking Costs

    Is there some practical reason that private jets from overseas often land at JFK and then ferry to SWF, or is it simply cost? If it's cost, how expensive is parking at JFK that the world's richest people are spending a few thousand bucks on fuel and adding an extra cycle on their jet that they're still getting a deal?

    Some insight from someone in the business....

    1) Maybe the Customs officer who covers SWF would not travel there for the bizzers arrival time. According to the North American Ac-u-Kwik...
    SWF Customs: 24hr advance notice required, made during business hours, 0800-1600 Monday thru Friday. (The Ac-u-Kwik is the Corporate Aviators bible...FBO information for all airports with a runway over 3500ft. Customs info, etc.)

    2) Maybe they were originally sked for HPN or TEB and delays into there made them divert. If so, they have to divert to a place that has Customs on-sight...especially on a Holiday or a weekend day. (See SWF Customs info above).

    3) Can you be sure these folks are continuing on to SWF? Maybe they are flying private across the pond, catching a commercial flight to the West Coast or Florida. Don't laugh I've seen it happen. If a crew flies 7.5 hours from London to NY, and the pax are going to LAX, instead of another expensive charter they buy F/C tix and "fly with the masses." The bizzer then positions to SWF either because it's based there, or it's going into a hangar overnight.

    GE's Corporate Flight Department is based in SWF, and they have a few birds that are over the Atlantic capable, (CL604, G4, G5, not to mention tier BBJ's)

    Hope this helps.

    Oh yeah...landing and parking fees...DUH...a G4 landing there is charged approx $750. So figure, about $600 for the Challenger, $850 for the G5 and $1200 for the BBJ. JFK charges landing fees based on Max Allowable TOW of the aircraft.

    What he means is that most foreign Government/VIP flights drop their passengers at JFK, then fly to SWF to park until the VIP's are ready for leaving. The aircraft then comes back to JFK and then leaves directly back to it's home country with the VIPs on board.

    To answer Gotham's question, I would presume SWF is a lot cheaper to park a/c at than JFK, being that it is more remote from the city. Obviously this could now change since the purchase by PANYNJ of SWF, but I would think the prices would still be lower up there.
