Goodyear Airport....Where did all the aircraft go??

Originally an air force base I started visiting it June of 2001.
It was much different then it will be within a year.

At this point, Goodyear was taking DC-10's and turning them into MD-10's
for Fed Ex. I think this was the most beautiful I have ever seen her. All
aircraft going back into service for a new lease on life.

    Google Earth shot

The next time I was to visit, Things Changed! July 1st 2003 I was able to
see the big changes in the airline industry post 9-11. These pictures do
    not do it justice

    From the Fence

Now there are the long time residents
This DC-7 was purchased many years ago by a church group that
reportedly was going to use this aircraft to fly away when Armageddon
happened. The oil stopped leaking from the engines many years prior to
    this shot being taken!
    Nice right???? lolol

Lufthansa also uses this airport for pilot training

Yea, I am lost on that one too!

    Some new visitors

Me standing in the first 777 that was ever broken up!!! (NOT AT THAT TIME)

The last time I was at Goodyear was August 18th 2004

    Sitting out on the ramp

These were taken from the fence line

    Yes those were 777's!!!

got more tails than a toilet seat gets!!!!

First picture taken of this bird with new paint!!!

Tom will go nuts with the reg!

Was an America West 732 a few hours ago

    A closer look

I Google Earthed it and got this in the same spot

    Passing rain

The heat gets to your brain I tell ya!

    A newer shot

On his way back from a test flight

Now here is the problem....Scotty PM'ed me with a question as per how
many aircraft were left there. Imagine my suprise when I saw this!!!

here is the current commercial aircraft at Goodyear.

Is Goodyear dying? 20 aircraft on field storage?
The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

amazing shots fred. i haven't been there in years either. the one and only time i was there i had to divert from chandler because of an airplane stuck on the runway. i had just enough fuel to get there as i didn't tank up when leaving prescott so i could take 2 other people. the plane was a piece of junk and deserved to stay there but i had to fly it out, went to chandler about 3 hours later. good old time...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I went out to Goodyear at the end of last Summer, wasn't really alot out there. I was kind of dissapointed....so that list you have is pretty accurate. The guys out at Mojave (CA) at around the same time were complaining about the lack of a/c there as well. Good times for the industry....bad for the boneyards.

Wow--very cool shots. I haven't seen a lot from Goodyear recently.

Regarding that pile of scrap--I would have taken the door handle for my collection. :P

Is visiting Goodyear easy? You obviously had some pretty good connections to walk around and be in that 74 cockpit.

    Great shots!

    Fun, yet sad.
