PARIS — U.S.-based aircraft leasing company Intrepid Aviation Group has signed nonbinding commitments to buy 20 Airbus A330-200F freighters, the European aircraft maker said Monday

Airbus, a unit of European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co., launched its freighter version of the A330 passenger jet last year.

Subject to their confirmation by Intrepid _ which is owned by New York-based Reservoir Capital Group _ the first of the freighters will be delivered from early 2010, Airbus said.

My first reaction was the aircraft carrier anchored at the West Side just bought a few Airbus freighters to park on its deck :-).

In related news, Airbus announced a new addition to the A330 line, the A330F-VTOL.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
