    Spotting tomorrow at LGA

    Hi guys,

My buddy and I are going to LGA tomorrow to do some spotting, luckily the weather looks like it'll be a little chilly but no rain. Wondering how folks who don't have cars (like most people who have been to NYC understand why :P)...how do you get between spotting points? For example, if they are using 22 for landings and then you want to go watch some departures off 31, how do you get between spots? Are taxi's around those roads to hail, or buses?

    Thanks!

If you are in College Point checkin out rwy 22 landings and need to then get over to Planview Park, you've got to take a ride on the Q25 bus and transfer at Main Street, Flushing to the Q48. Problem is it would take about an hour or more, between waiting for those buses and the ride, even though geographically it's only two miles (Damn Flushing Bay!!%$##%)

You can call a cab, though. I recommend calling "Four-Twos" at 718-746-2222 (ingenious). It will cost about $18 (plus tip), but I think time is money and when you compare a 10 minute car ride to 75 minutes on a bus, it's worth the dollars.

To add, 31 departure shots are best (and only) gotten from INSIDE the terminal. Be very careful when shooting inside the terminal, as the policy on photography from within the terminal changes. Don't say we didn't warn you.

I'd recommend sticking to 22 landings if they are using the 22/31 config.

I was thinking of going to LGA tomorrow morning and catching the Pink Delta. Any idea which runways? I don't usually have good luck at College Point (only a 300mm lens). If all goes well I'll be down by 10 AM.

MacNeil Park in College Point should be fine for side-ons as they pass the park with 300mm.

Thanks Phil, I'll give it a try. Nick, if we run into eachother and you want a ride to the Marina let me know. It wouldn't be a problem.

Sat morning forecasted winds are NE at 20 mph so I don't think they will be landing on 22 ! If I where you I would plan on Planeview !

Thanks for the fast respones guys! I really appreciate the help!

Out of curiousity...why is it these two spots (I've made circles to where I'm referring to) aren't listed as spotting locations:

They seem like they'd be great for 31 departures and 22 arrivals! Is this a restricted or private property?

Because that is Rikers Island -- a prison.

As a sidenote, if Rikers was open to the public, it would only good to spot int he final hours of the day, as it would be backlit most of the time.

Hi all, sorry for bringing the topic back. I saw some good shots taken from the terminal at LGA with the "Welcome to NYC" sign in the background. I tried to find the spot last time but all I was able to find was a foodcourt in the middle of the Terminal (the big one in the middle) which was ground level - so I don't think that's the spot. Anybody know which place it could be ? Pics I'm refering to are for example :

    thanks in advance

The locationf or that is further southeast fromt hat food court. Simply go up the escalator there to the next higher level and continue waking down. Once you get to the ticket coutners, there's a corridor behind them that have windows and more easteries (another JetRock). Towards the end you'll see yet another escalator that goes up to another high floor that give you a nice view.

I don't condone photography, as Port Authority can get upset when people take photos from inside the terminal.

are you referring to the spot above concourse A and , with passage to the parking lot?

I like shooting form there, but i get "off" colors due to the glass.
