I spent a few enjoyable hours at Costco with Phil, Mel and Tommy this afternoon. Didn't see anything too out of the ordinary, although I was happy to finally get a nice pic of a Delta 764. The light was good for most of the afternoon (with nice puffy clouds in the background), except for intermittent pockets of no sun, but overall it was a good afternoon. Good to see you guys, and I look forward to next time....

Yeah, I protest! Toss in some picks into the thread.

If 31's will be in use and the weather will be good, will someone venture out on Sat. or Sun.? I might join in if I could arrange some ride, believe me taking the train up to Rockaway takes a long time and then the Q113, brrr.

You asked for pics....you got em.

Here are a bunch which I edited VERY quickly for instant gratification. I'm sure there are some dust spots, blurs and other oversights, but please...enjoy and I welcome feedback. I hadn't been out shooting in awhile!

We started out at Howard Beach to catch the Kuwait 744. I only had 300mm, but made the best out of it. The Kuwait turned super early, but the JAL and Korean made up for it. :)

Headed over to Costco, and while the sun WAS out, it kept hiding from us under the clouds (which did provide some nice backgrounds)....

For Gordon (sorry it's not the 600, boo!)

Yay! Finally saw the REAL Delta Dash-8...not my phony one ;)

    The Phil Derner, Jr. plane!

Just barely kept this one in the frame.

    For Brian....we miss you

Beautiful shots Mel! Love the Iberia, even though it's not a -600 :(

I'd offer to give you a ride A350 but I'll be coming from Poughkeepsie. By the way I'll be meeting Matt (G-BOAD) out at JFK so it'd be great for him to meet some other guys (and girl ).

Thanks anyway dude, don't worry about it :D, I'll hitchhike (j/k). I'll try to get there somehow, I hope we can get a nice group. Everything depends on the weather and I'm not 100% yet.

Really a nice day today. Spent my first half at FRG. Looks like I'll be doing some volunteer work for the Museum. Really wonderful folks down there. Then had a great day spotting with Phil, Mel and Josh. Again nothing special but the light made for some interesting shots.

I'm into this B/W thing for these old birds!!! God the sound of a B24, B25, and a B17 with there engines spinning all at the same time, WOW!!!

Great shots Mel! You may have been disappointed that the Kuwaiti 744 turned early, but that's a super angle on that shot. I love all 3 departure shots you got!

I haven't edited my shots yet, but I noticed that about 14 photos (atleast) didn't read to my card properly, and therefore I don't have any shots of the Delta Dash-8. BOOOOO!!

Great day though. Was great running into Josh and Wendy :)

I was wondering why my shots looked a bit less sharp than what I'm used to, when Phil mentioned that I wasn't shooting with IS yesterday (lens didn't have it). While it's frustrating since I know my shots could've been better...I'm glad I didn't realize I didn't have IS while shooting, b/c I was a lot more relaxed. I'm sure I would've been trying to be extra careful if it dawned on me!

Tommy...great shots! Damn you and your 30D.

    Thanks Mel!

You also bring up a good point about IS. To many people think its the solution to sharp shots and they rely on it to much. Good panning and a steady hand are the solution to good shots. I half the time forget my IS is on.
