Actually Phil things haven't changed as much as you think. Even in Queens, in this day and age it's still considered rude to wear a baseball hat in places such as peoples homes and in restuarants etc.Stop sweating my hat. PEople wear hats these days. Personally, wearing a hat when it's not appropriate to do so is something that really agitates me. For example, this guy (who was pretending to be a "ghetto thug" I guess) was wearing a hat (the straight one that people who act ghetto don't wear properly with the stickers on it) in a restaurant tonight in Little Italy. Not only did I want to say something to him, I wanted to let his parents (or the older people that were there with him) know that at a pretty nice establishment that shouldn't happen...
But, a lot of it is in context nowadays. For example, if you're going over to your friend's house to pick up something or going over to just chill, it's perfectly acceptable to leave your hat on indoors. As long as its a very informal, relaxed setting, with people you are familiar and friendly with, it's fine.
Now, if you're going over to see a lady (who you're not good friends with), or going over to eat a somewhat nice meal at someone's house, then yes it is considered polite to take your hat off. If your friend is having you over to his family's house for dinner, then yes it is appropriate to remove your hat. Or, anytime you're in a restaurant, you should remove your hat.
In an outdoor casual interview, it is completely acceptable to keep your hat on. If you watch the news, you'll see that a lot of times, when reporters are "on scene" and aren't in a suit or dress (like when reporting the weather or the like), they'll be dressed down (or have something like a poncho on) with a hat on.
And hey, if this was a military interview, and Phil was in the military, he would definately have his hat on!
Now if you were to get on Phil for not standing up straight (and making himself look like the huge beast he thinks he is.. jk jk) I might have to agree with you! :P
Nick next time we go to Smokin Al's this is the hat I'll be wearing, and I'm sitting next to you! LOLOL
