JFK runway use Jan 30 2006 and its effect on LI

Just WOW. I almost crashed the car on the way to the office at 12:16 PM today.

was anyone working in the Farmingdale area today? I was just floored with the way the sky looked.

It was crystal clear out, not a cloud in the sky. And right over what looked like the intersection of rt 109 and Pinelawn Rd, I saw what looked like a

Lufthansa 777, maybe 8000 ft up, heading Northeast, I assume to JFK and

passing overhead, heading northWEST, an unidentifiable A 340. I'd guess they have no more than 5000 miles separation since their relative size was very similar.

It was a surreal phot- op but the whole day presented such pics. Anyone catch that today?

Didn't get any pix, but I was at our Hickville subsidiary in the morning, and heading back to Melville, it looked like an AF 777 was inbound, along with a red-tailed 747, couldn't make out the markings.

When JFK uses arrivals on either 22L or R the arrivals will pass over the south shore and up over Seaford, Farmingdale, and then turn final into 22R or L . At the same time any departures on the same runway they will climb out over Five Towns then turn left bringing them again over seaford and farmingdale but at a much higher altitude. Living near Bethpage,I see them cross paths all the time. What make it interesting is the occasional arrival heading north into FRG that is a lot lower then the JFK traffic.

Lufthansa doesn't have a 777, so I'm guessing Air France as well. Maybe gulf Air?

maybe Ari has it, an LH 330 perhaps.

Just kills me though, it was such a perfect scissors crossing of the one about 300 feet above the other. and with a crsytal clear sky too!

shame it changed so dramatically though!

so I'll pretty much expect that anytime the 22s are both being used?
