MSP > YWG Spotting from Hotel - Image Heavy

On my way up to a recent fishing trip in Northern Manitoba I had an overnight at the YWG airport Sheraton. Shot many of these right from my hotel window, but unfortunately the glass was dirty. Awesome view though for an avgeek. Some of these were shot out on the ramp and you'll know which ones by the quality.

A Vickers Viscount! Mmm mmm good. I loved flying those in Flight Simulator 98, it actually modeled the Dart engine noise really well

Yeah, the sound of those engines was incredible! Never heard one in person but seen some good footage.

when i was a wee kid both Air Canada, and United used to fly them into JFK, a very unique noise, also used to see them in British colors at LHR in '80.
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!

Yup. And when I was a wee kid, I remember walking my dad across the tarmac at JFK right up to an AC Viscount to send him off on a fishing trip. Ironically, I had never seen another Viscount until my chance meeting with the one pictured above. Another irony, is that I saw this one while on my way to a fishing trip in Canada with my dad. He's 78 now and I finally got to go with him to Canada.

On our return from Northern Manitoba to YWG I shot this pic of our aborted landing for RWY 36. We lost hydraulics and didn't get any green when we went to drop the gear. Here we are in a Chieftain passing over the threshold at about 400 ft. We cranked down the gear by hand and went around.
