    KALB 01/20/2011 and Obama Visit

I am in Albany today for a family event and since I got here early, decided to do some spotting at ALB. Started out in Spot A and after a single landing in an hour decided to go to spot B for some departures. Nothing happened in another hour. Well a couple of private Cessnas bit that was it

While at the turnaround, a super friendly Colonie Sheriff Officer came over and said hello, smiled and said "hanging out?". I said yeah just watching the planes although little action. He smiled back and said: "come back tomorrow. President's coming!"

He then waved goodbye and turned around and went away. Will post any pictures layer this evening or tomorrow.

It's supposed to snow tomorrow. It'd be nice to get AF1 in the snow. I may sneak out at lunch at try to get a shot.

btw, I was at the airport briefly a couple of times today. Too many clouds for me to even bother taking the camera out.

Holy Crap.... How could you classify that Police encounter???? It just broke the scale!
The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

Fred he was so nice that I wanted to invite him over for Christmas :-)

I think it helps that he was a seasoned officer. He was calm, relaxed, professional and you can tell he knows a loy more than a rookie Of course I gave him my card :-)

    Daniel,

I was in a silver Lexus SUV with Amateur Radio plates and the bazooka lens in case you saw me. I saw quite a few cars at the Parking Area spot but no one seemed too perplexed with my taking pics. And you're right light sucked so bad I only saved one image and [it] sucked cause it was a prop and I was in A pri mode so frozen props :-(

You must snag at least one or two AF1s for us :-)

OK so like Daniel said, light was bad... Also apologies for the props :-(

This was the only plane that landed that was worthwhile shooting. I missed a couple of WN and Colgan Air departures. Only had about an hour to spot!

I was too busy at work to take the time to head over to the airport. I was able to see her from my office window though.

I get a view of the approach to runway 1. Much cropping was involved in that photo though

    Daniel,

THANK YOU for confirming she made it :-) Still have not spoken to my sister or brother in-law re: the arrival. Actually it has been mum around here about it. Maybe someone else snagged a few good shots and we'll see em on A.net/J.net?

Too bad they won't be yours or mine
