Continental, American, and JetBlue have had weather advisories posted since last night with the option of rebooking for passengers yet Delta doesn't seem to be too concerned. I have a flight tomorrow to JFK on Delta and have not been able to get any sense of their plans except that the reservations representative had no clue and the Delta staff at SJU expected it not to be a problem. Hopefully they post something soon!

Gordon don;t worry... the planes can land on snow... maybe not safely, but they can force it down on the ground Ridiculous how they can leave people hanging like that. Is it more convenient to wait to the last minute financially or something? True it may not be that bad in the end, but why take a chance?

What? Planes land safely in the snow all the time. What do you think they do in MSP, Alaska, Canada? I myself have landed quite safely in snow at JFK a few times. Let's not get ridiculous here. Sure any snow will throw a monkey wrench into operations and positioning of aircraft, crews, etc; but the impact to safety should be minimal if nothing...

Good luck Gordon. I've personally toured the Delta OCC here in Atlanta and I would assure you that they are well aware of any weather and potential impact to operations, especially at a hub like JFK. If they haven't issued a weather waiver yet, then I would expect that they anticipate on running a close to normal schedule.

Well Delta finally put up an advisory and I was able to change for early Saturday afternoon. Hopefully this change was necessary!

Really wasnt much of a storm. A little over-reaction perhaps because of the "Day After Xmas Storm"?
By the time I left work the sun was out and setting over Manhattan. Back on LI out of the LIRR and here comes one of the Cablevision 76s over the station low and loud into Bethpage.
Always looks cool like that in inclement weather. One thing I do have to say is that sometimes one inch of snow can be just as bigger pain than 20. Went out around 8 to do a quick
shovel of the driveway and there was a layer of black ice under the snow. Streets were very slippery. But it was clear with no wind and checked out a number of JFK 22 arrivals that came
cruising overhead.
Now they are watching for a "possible" bigger storm Tues night into Wed.

Airplanes can land in snow very safely... The largest issues during weather events are three things... Available infastructure as in plowed runways and taxiways, present icing conditions andrunway braking conditions.. Blowing snow is a problem because it creates inaccurate braking reports sometimes.. It also prevents the runway treatment from being entirely effective... A good example of what creates a safety issue for airplanes in snow is the recent overrun at JAC... That airports runway is ungrooved and is not eledgeable for treatment beyond basic plowing because of its location in a national park.
