A few days after being handed the keys to its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, United Airlines has flown its new state-of-the-art toy home to Houston.
United Flight 7708 took off from Seattle’s Boeing Field at 10:00 am on Friday, and after some skillful storm dodging and a brief bit of circling over Colorado, landed at George Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport about four hours later.
In contrast to some previous events surrounding the milestone first plane, including its emergence from the paint hangar, the delivery earlier in the week and the delivery flight involved little fanfare. Media were invited less than 24 hours before the Seattle departure. The plane was greeted in Houston by a water cannon salute but little else in the way of celebration.
The new jet enters service on a number of routes beginning November 4th.
