In an announcement released to the press today, British Airways announced its latest United States destination to be Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport with flights departing from and returning to London Gatwick. Services will commence on July 6, 2017 and will operate with Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
Mark Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation for Broward County said “This announcement has reiterated FLL’s status as an attractive, low-cost airport with a diverse portfolio of air service options. FLL is widely recognized as one of the fastest-growing “large hub” airports in the country. British Airways decision to land at FLL illustrates the strength of this region and the incredible opportunities Broward County offers for tourism and business travelers.”
Colm Lacy, head of British Airways Commercial Service for Gatwick added “We are excited to be adding Fort Lauderdale to our network. As a city that boasts beautiful beaches, an international yachting scene and easy access to onward cruises, we believe British tourists will flock to experience everything it has to offer. We also believe the close proximity to Miami will give businesses and holidaymakers more choice and flexibility over their travel schedules.”
Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport is currently ranked 21st in the United States in total passenger traffic and offers services to more than 70 U.S. cities and international destinations with more than 700 flights a day.
