United announced an order for 30 Embraer E-175 on Monday evening, which will fly under their United Express fleet, with deliveries scheduled for 2014 to 2015.

“At United, we are focused on modernizing our fleet, and we look forward to introducing the E175 to our United Express service. Compared to the 50-seat aircraft we are replacing, these aircraft provide a superior customer experience and are more fuel efficient,” said Jim Compton, United’s vice chairman and chief revenue officer.

The Embraer E-175 is a major upgrade to the current CRJ200, which is cramped and has little overhead space. This order is just another nail in the coffin for the little CRJ200, which has seen a big reduction in use over the past few years.

United says the aircraft will be configured with 12 United First, 16 Economy Plus and 48 United Economy seats.
