A fuel leak grounded a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 in Boston on Tuesday, just a day after another of the airline’s 787s caught fire at the same airport.
About 40 gallons of fuel leaked from the plane as it was taxiing to the runway for departure at around 12:30 pm. The crew discovered the leak and the plane was towed back to the gate. The cause of the leak was not immediately clear.
The NTSB on Tuesday also shared more details about Monday’s fire, confirming that it started in an auxiliary power unit battery. The battery suffered severe damage, and a surrounding area around 20-inches in diameter was also damaged by heat.
