JetBlue Airways on Thursday announced that it would begin serving Philadelphia this May.

Service will commence May 23 with five daily roundtrips linking Philly to Boston, with an introductory fare of $17.76 for travel between May 23 and June 19, 2013. The route will be operated by 100-seat Embraer E190 jets.

“Five JetBlue flights every day definitely beats a long drive, or the current air alternative,” said Scott Laurence, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning in a statement. Philadelphia will become JetBlue’s 78th city.

US Airways is currently the only carrier serving the PHL-BOS route nonstop.

Philadelphia has been seeing a number of new airlines and routes in recent months, led by Virgin America which launched flights to the west coast in April. Spirit Airlines in June announced that it would begin Philly flying from Dallas in June 2013.
